The Assistant Art Director will work closely with the Art Director to handle all aspects of design and visual presentation at Foreign Affairs, including sourcing and selecting art and photos; creating design assets for the magazine’s website, social media accounts, and various digital products; and supporting the production of the print edition. Under the supervision of the Art Director, the Assistant Art Director will work on design and visual projects across content platforms, as well as marketing materials.

 

This position can work from our offices in New York City, or remote.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting with the design and layout of the print edition of Foreign Affairs using Adobe InDesign
  • Art directing and/or creating illustrations
  • Finding and editing appropriate photography from image agencies for editorial needs
  • Designing branding and social media assets
  • Designing print and digital marketing materials
  • Assisting with product design for editorial initiatives, including email newsletters
  • Working on the design of infographics and data visualization (charts, maps etc.)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in graphic design, or related area of study
  • Two or more years of related experience, publishing and/or editorial preferred
  • Expertise in the Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop
  • Digital design experience using Figma or similar software
  • A portfolio of work available for review
