The Council on Foreign Relations is looking for a Staff Editor to join the Foreign Affairs editorial team.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-paced team dedicated to publishing expert analysis of current events. The new editor will serve as a general article editor working on both print and online articles. The job will involve editing pieces, generating story ideas, and assisting with other publication-related tasks. Current opportunities are on a fully remote basis through the end of calendar year 2020.
• Edit articles to improve readability and conform with Foreign Affairs’ style and sensibility• Confer with authors regarding changes in content, style, or organization• Collaborate with experts, other editors, and authors to generate article ideas, and follow through on commissioning pieces• Work collegially with other editors, copy editors, fact checkers, graphic designers, and social media personnel on a variety of tasks• Evaluate submissions• Verify facts in articles
• One year of professional editorial experience working (ideally) with both print and web• Familiarity with online and print journalism• Exceptional writing and editing skills• A strong understanding of and a passion for foreign policy and international affairs• The ability to work efficiently on multiple tasks on deadline, to interact well with the entire staff, and to work flexible hours on request• Strong computer and web skills
