Middle School Special Education Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in Special Education
- Certification in math and ELA, or comparable HOUSSE option certification preferred
- Knowledge of and able to apply best instructional practices
- Co-teaching training and / or experience preferred
- Strong personal integrity and professional ethics
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Possess good communication skills
- Positive behavioral support experience preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Ability to plan and coordinate with general education teachers
- Ability to develop, write, and implement IEPs that result in student growth
- Ability to manage and maintain all Special Education paperwork in a timely manner
- Ability to plan and coordinate for and with Special Education paraprofessionals
- A desire to continue to grow as a professional
- Ability / experience leading team meetings
- Ability to maintain accurate records and meet multiple deadlines
- Understands diversity of student learning styles and can skillfully prepare and apply differentiated learning experiences
- Experience working with students of varying academic abilities
- Demonstrates ability to use data to drive instructional decisions
- Computer literate with a proven proficiency to effectively apply and integrate technology to support meaningful teaching and successful student learning
- Experience / training in Restorative Practices and Trauma Informed Care is preferred
- Ability to develop / sustain positive working relationships with students, staff, and the school community
- Motivates students and influences their behavior
- Maintains and communicates standards of pupil behavior and classroom management expectations for the purpose of providing a safe and secure learning environment
- Creates and thrives in a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability
- Maintain the drive for results by demonstrating persistence, directness, and the ability to monitor and plan ahead
- Understands and implements Board of Education Policy, Administrative Guidelines, and organizational practices for the purpose of consistency and compliance
SALARY : Based on Teacher Contract and Salary Schedule
REPORTS TO : Middle School Principal
