What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corrections Officer position at County of Blair?
Job opportunities exist for full-time hires who will provide care, custody, and control of inmates in the Blair County Prison. Essential functions include maintaining control of security and safety in an assigned housing block; monitoring and patrolling an assigned area, observing and supervising inmate behavior and during bathing, meals, recreation, and work release; monitoring to detect or prevent disturbances or looking for signs of duress or escape; maintaining records, preparing logs; escorting inmates throughout Prison, to and from court hearings, to and from medical appointments, and to/from other institutions; searching inmates, inmate mail, and various areas for contraband; and attending training.
Qualified applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED and preferably apply with having completed the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Title 37 training or have equivalent on-the-job experience within corrections; must be capable of remaining alert at all times during shifts that could last as long as 16 consecutive hours; must be able to sustain the physical requirements of the position that include standing and walking on concrete, working under pressure with frequent interruptions, exposure to odors and bodily fluids, and restraining inmates. Applicants must also be fluent in English, pay attention to details, and function independently according to established procedures.
