SPECIAL SALARY INFORMATION
MAPP - This position is subject to the provisions of the Management Appraisal of Performance Plan (MAPP) Schedule 8. Initial salary placement and subsequent salary adjustments will be made in accordance with MAPP guidelines and regulations.

The Position:
Assists in managing of library services within a region or specialized system-wide service.
Positions allocable to this class work under the general direction of a Library Administrator with particular responsibility for library services in a library region, or plan, direct and coordinate a major Countywide service such as development, acquisitions, or bibliographic access. Incumbents must have thorough knowledge of library trends, practice, and administration in combination with highly specialized professional or technical proficiency in their particular area of assignment and have the ability to impart this knowledge to others. Supervisory positions exercise knowledge of the principles of supervision, terms and conditions of applicable Memoranda of Understanding, and the departmental policies, rules, locations, and services.

There are two options to qualify for this position:
Option I: A Master's degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited* college or university in Library Science or Information Science - AND - one (1) year of experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Librarian V** which includes immediate charge of a very large community library having a minimum of ten (10) full-time librarians and other non-professional staff.
Option II: A Master's degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited* college or university in Library Science or Information Science - AND - Two (2) years of experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Librarian IV*** which includes immediate charge of a large community library having a minimum of five (5) full-time librarians and other non-professional staff, or centralized responsibilities for coordinating specialized library programs.
License: A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Physical Class II – Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

**In the service of Los Angeles County, a Librarian V is defined as 1) having immediate charge of a very large community library including the supervision of at least ten (10) full-time librarians and other non-professional staff combined; or 2) directs and coordinates department-wide specialized reference services. ***In the service of Los Angeles County, a Librarian IV is defined as 1) having immediate charge of a large community library including the supervision of at least five (5) full-time librarians and other non-professional staff combined; 2) coordinates a regional specialized library service or department-wide special service program; 3) performs highly specialized work evaluating and selecting materials for the department's collection; 4) directs the performance of difficult Technical Services support functions. EXAMINATION CONTENT
This examination will consist of an interview, weighted 100%. The interview will assess education, training, experience, personal fitness, general knowledge, and ability to perform the duties of the position.
Candidates must meet the requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible register.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
Applications will be processed on an as-received basis. The names of candidates receiving a passing grade on the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation. Passing this examination and being placed on the eligible register do not guarantee an offer of employment.
SPECIAL INFORMATION
Available Shift: Appointees will be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
Vacancy Information: The resulting eligible list will be used to fill vacancies throughout LA County Library.
