is currently recruiting for the position of

SUPERVISING NURSE

Interviews will take place on Thursdays.  Qualifying applicants will be invited via email to schedule an interview.  Candidates should be prepared to immediately complete background paperwork following the interview. 

Supervising Nurses provide professional, specialized nursing care to adult patients in an acute or post-acute setting and serve as a second level supervisor, first level manager in the nursing series. As a Supervising Nurse, you will provide direction and leadership to nursing personnel in all shifts within a specific location in the facility to ensure an adequate standard of care. This position may act in the absence of the Assistant Director of Nursing or Director of Nursing.

Hourly Salary and Premiums

Positions are located at the Edgemoor Distinct Part Skilled Nursing Facility (DP/SNF) located at 655 Park Center Drive, Santee, CA 92071 and at the San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital (SDCPH) located at 3853 Rosecrans Street, San Diego, CA 92110.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A valid Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California; AND,
  2. Current CPR card is required at the time of appointment, which must be maintained throughout employment; AND,
  3. A valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI) is required at the time of employment. Incumbents are required to maintain the NPI throughout employment in this class; AND,
  4. Four (4) years of registered nursing experience, of which at least one (1) year of this experience must have been in a long term care, rehabilitation, geriatric and/or psychiatric nursing facility, AND, one (1) year of this experience must have been in nursing management.

NOTE 

A bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited U.S. college or university, or certified foreign studies equivalency may substitute for one (1) year of RN experience. A master's degree in nursing, public health, hospital administration, business administration or other related fields from an accredited U.S. college or university, or certified foreign studies equivalency may substitute for two (2) years of RN experience. Specialized training in nursing administration and supervision is highly desirable. Substitution cannot be applied to the one (1) year of experience in a long term care, rehabilitation, geriatric and/or psychiatric nursing facility OR the one (1) year of experience in nursing management.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will have recent experience in a long term care setting; experience supervising a large unit of nurses in various levels of nursing; knowledge of standard of care and strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to multi-task; and knowledge of state and federal nursing requirements.



INTERVIEWS AND HIRING PROCESS
 
The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below. Please note that dates are approximate and are dependent upon the successful completion of each step of the process.
 
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date. 

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
 
As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening. 


EVALUATION PROCESS

The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a three (3) month eligible list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained on their employment applications.
