Position Summary:
Assist with specified nursing and technician functions as assigned, under the direction of a registered nurse or a physician.

Responsibilities
- Performs basic triage in clinical area.
- Performs catheterizations on emergency department patients.
- Starts IVs; administers intravenous medications.
- Administers intravenous antibiotics.
- Administer subcutaneous medications.
- Administer intramuscular medications.
- Fits orthopedic appliances (STAT supplies).
- Applies dressings.
- Takes patient vital signs.
- Transports/lifts/moves patients to appropriate areas in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort.
- Local travel required.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
Minimum Experience:
Prior experience as an emergency medical technician and/or hospital attendant required. Must be knowledgeable in aseptic technique and IV/subcutaneous/intramuscular medications. Must have an understanding of standard techniques used in providing personal services for patients and in caring for equipment and supplies. For staff involved in the care of age-specific groups, knowledge of the bio-psychosocial needs of adult, geriatric and pediatric patients is essential. Special knowledge is required in growth and development needs of pediatric/geriatric patients where applicable. Department orientation and special training will be provided.
Licensure Requirements:
Must be currently licensed as a paramedic with the State of Tennessee. Must be currently certified (or scheduled for certification or recertification training according to department guidelines) for CPR. Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D with an “F” endorsement for up to 14 passenger vehicles, OR a Class “A”, “B”, or “C” with “P” endorsement for 15 passenger vehicles, depending on the driving needs of the facility. Employee must have state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
