What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tow Truck Driver I position at Cox?
This position is responsible for safely picking up (tow in) and delivering (tow out) salvage vehicles from/to Insurance client locations or CAT centers, body shops, dealerships, residences, etc. This position is responsible for the safe transport of salvage vehicles and ensuring public safety on the roads; therefore, accuracy, attention to detail, secure and safe transport, pre/post vehicle inspection, and ability to follow Federal DOT regulations are essential.
Job Responsibilities:
Review assignments for location of the tow in or tow out and verify company truck is ready for safe operation.
Inspect truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips.
Submit a written report on the condition of the truck at end of each trip or tour of duty.
Review assignments and verify vehicle information including make, model, color, and VIN.
Review contents of the vehicle, check for missing parts and complete the check list on the assignment. (i.e., missing radio, keys, Air bags, headlights, battery, sheet metal, etc.).
Load and unload vehicles from transport truck by use of a winch, chains, blocks, electric controls, etc.
Secure vehicles and vehicle parts with chains, straps, and other safe means in effort to prevent loose parts from falling off or causing additional damage during transport.
Maintain appearance of truck; inside cab at all times and outside when conditions permit. Drive the company truck to destinations and safely operate in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations.
Follow all traffic laws and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Apply knowledge of commercial driving skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather or in tight loading/unloading situations.
Complete and turn in all related paperwork: vehicle assignments, driver's daily logs (if required), fuel purchase logs, mileage logs, and other paperwork required by law and/or the company.
Read stock numbers on a computer screen and verify the stock number and vehicle information (Make/Model, Color) directly from vehicle before loading onto forks.
Perform work safely and bring safety hazards to the attention of management
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
1 - 3 years of experience driving a service/tow truck or rollback truck is required.
Valid driver's license and safe driving record are required.
Physical Requirements
Must know how to operate a Wheel lift tow truck.
Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
Ability to walk long distances.
Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk, and hear.
Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, and climb.
Ability to lift 1-30 pounds.
Vision abilities required include close, distance, and color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
