Because of continuing growth and expansion, CPChem has an exciting opportunity for a new Plant Manager to support our Sweeny/Clemens Terminal/Old Ocean facilities. Reporting to the SVP, Manufacturing, CPChem’s Sweeny Plant Manager will be charged with leading a team of 615 hourly and professional employees, plus 450 contractors, in the delivery of safe, environmentally sound plant operations focused on excellence in manufacturing and financial rigor. In addition to the manufacturing mandate, the successful candidate will lead all site operations to include budgets, human capital, union negotiations, and community relations.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- Sets the strategic direction of the Sweeny/Clemens Terminal/Old Ocean facilities
- Manages a team of over 615 employees and 450 contractors focused on safe and reliable operations of the manufacturing site; workgroups include operations, maintenance, safety, environmental engineering, projects, purchasing, equipment inspection, administration, laboratory/quality control, and shipping activities
- Executes agreed production schedules and inventory levels for manufacturing units and ensures alignment between business and manufacturing teams
- Responsible for the development of operational expense and capital improvement budgets and manages approved budgets
- Responsible for operating in a continuous improvement environment, striving for operational excellence and an innovation mindset among employees and contractors
- Removes production constraints and allocates human and equipment resources to meet production goals
- Serves as the Chair of the SCO Talent Stewardship Committee, responsible for the facility’s organizational capability
- Senior member of CPChem’s Plant Manager Team, helping to define broader manufacturing strategy, priorities, and objectives
- Serves as a member of the Manufacturing Talent Stewardship Committee, which includes all plant managers and other senior leaders in manufacturing, facilitating talent optimization for mid-to-senior level employees in manufacturing and setting organizational priorities for talent
- Leads a team of senior plant management team members, including all aspects of the performance management process
- Engages with Union leadership to ensure contractual alignment
- Oversees plant safety and security for the protection of team members and assets
- Develops new product strategies and maintains close relationships with Commercial and Research and Technology organization partners to best serve customer needs
- Serves as a representative of the facility across the region for community/charitable activities and key events, like workforce development activities (e.g., Junior Achievement) Brazoria County Petrochemical Council, Executive Committee Member for Economic Development Alliance for Brazoria County, Brazoria County Care Team, and CAP.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering field
- 20 years of experience in petrochemical/refinery manufacturing with experience in key plant management team role(s)
- Experience as a senior leader of a facility producing a diverse slate of products
- Proven leadership, team building, and advanced coaching skills
- Ability to motivate people, assess and develop employee skills
- Understanding of the applications associated with manufacturing operations, maintenance, and engineering
- Ability to develop a cooperative work environment, use sound and self-directed judgment
- Ability to communicate with employees at all levels
- In depth understanding of budgeting and expense management
- Basic understanding of finance and accounting
- Understanding of safety systems
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication and listening ability.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience managing a petrochemical plant of over 7 billion pounds of production annually
- Extensive experience in an organization producing ethylene, polyethylene resins and propylene
- Experience as a senior leader in a union environment
- Diverse experience in multiple areas of manufacturing, commercial, and/or R&T.
