Purpose/Introduction
We are currently seeking qualified individuals to join our team as a Process Operator for the Port Arthur and existing Orange locations. Employees in this position receive directions from the supervisor and work with other operators in performing routine plant operating duties.
Responsibilities
- Attends and participates in daily shift meetings and weekly team meetings with plant supervision.
- Performs assigned area inspection of the operating unit, documents findings and writes work orders to correct deficiencies.
- Performs general maintenance, repair, and cleanup of plant equipment for safe and efficient operation.
- Performs the job functions described in the Daily Operating Instructions, Operating Procedures, Environmental Procedures, and Safety Procedures.
- Completes regulatory and operating training and demonstrates proficiency in each area.
- Rotates through multiple operating positions
- Safely operate pumps, compressors, reactors, distillation columns and other plant equipment within safe operating ranges.
- Monitors the performance of plant equipment and process conditions. Read flow meters, and temperature and pressure gauges. Take routine readings on process variables.
- Promptly respond to process alarms/constraints.
- Make changes to the operating process as necessary to maintain product quality. Adjust control instruments, valves or switches in order to regulate pressure, temperature or flow rate of product; to direct flow of product to other units or to maintain specified levels in tanks and towers. Operate control room instrumentation systems and coordinate activities with outside operators.
- Draw samples of products from the process for laboratory testing. Perform lab testing on some products.
- Be able to understand and follow plant policies and procedures.
- Be able to troubleshoot problems to determine resolution within safe operating limits.
- Be able to follow safe work practices, policies and procedures, take actions in their area of responsibility to reduce risks, and lead others to put safety first when visiting or working in their area of responsibility.
- Other tasks as required by plant management.
Required Qualifications
- Have a high school diploma or GED and 2-years of process operations experience in a chemical or refining plant, or related industry; OR 2-year associate degree in Process Technology or a related technical field.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
Testing Requirements
- Candidates must successfully complete the Console Operator Basic Requirements Assessment (COBRA).
