JOB SUMMARY:
The Machine Design Engineer is responsible for supporting innovation efforts and the development of new product, new processes, and product enhancements. Under general guidance, the Machine Design Engineer completes tasks related to research, design, fabrication, and experimentation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Machine design of new devices from concept to prototype (including linkages, bearings, shafts, seals, and motors)
- Testing and evaluating prototypes through experimentation, measurement, and analysis
- Skilled with computer-aided engineering and application for evaluating Crown equipment and performance, FEA or CFD,
- 3D design and drawing creation
- Project management and logistical duties associated with innovation projects
- Work with team engineers and technicians to create prototypes for testing, analysis, and fabrication; check and review 3D models, drawings, and fabricated parts
- Define experimental parameters and methods; organize necessary tools, personnel, apparatus, schedules, and data collection; participate in and delegate experiments and tests as necessary
- Work with teammates to define analysis parameters and methods; organize model setup, define desired data collection, and review results; participate in and delegate numerical simulations as necessary
- Compile, document, and review data; evaluate performance, update relevant team members, and iterate through the design process for product / process improvement
- Prepare summary reports and data plots to communicate results and progress
- Assist in observing and evaluating new technology performance in piloting and plant scenarios
- Organize and manage specialized engineering software contracts and licensing
- Preferred knowledge of Crown products and processes including Preparation, Extraction, and Liquids
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 3 years or more related experience.
- Self-motivated
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, and vendors.
- Able to apply principle of logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of innovation and development initiatives.
- Able to communicate design and prototype concepts with sketching and CAD
- Able to review 3D models and fabrication drawings
- Able to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, calculations, and test results.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- General and working knowledge of data acquisition methods, analysis tools, software, and programming such as Labview, Matlab
- Working knowledge and ability of 3D design and related tools including Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault
- Knowledge and experience in Heat Transfer, Fluid Flow, Structural Mechanics, Dynamics, Systems & Controls, Tribology, Chemistry, and Physics.
- Capable and skilled in quick analytical methods for reviewing for reviewing and understanding engineering problems in structural design and stress as well as heat transfer calculations and energy balance
- Capable and skilled in prototype creation and design iteration – experienced in developing a concept and creating prototypes and product or device to reach goals
- Must be able to communicate in English fluently. Ability to communicate in a second language – European or Asian languages preferred but not required.
- Ability to travel on need basis – domestically or internationally and up to 10% of the time.
