CR&R Incorporated is one of Southern California's most innovative and successful environmental recycling collection companies, serving more than 3 million people and over 25,000 businesses throughout Orange, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Imperial and Riverside counties. In addition, we also have operations in AZ, CO, NV, OR, UT, and WA.
The Corporate Controller will supervise the accounting team and provide support to the CFO in effectively managing financial operations. The Corporate Controller will be responsible for all accounting and administrative duties necessary to issue timely and complete monthly financial statements and the annual audited statements. This position will work directly with the CFO and will closely coordinate his/her activities with other members of the company’s executive team.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Adhere to internal controls, accounting policies and procedures, in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage month-end closing activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, revenue recognition, and financial statement preparation.
- Responsible for accurate maintenance of financial records, computer financial management system, chart of accounts and vendor files.
- Lead AP function, perform monthly bank reconciliations, prepare payment/advance requests for CFO.
- Prepare and present financial reports and risk analysis, create budgets and forecasts.
- Supervise purchasing and inventory of capital and disposable equipment and manage all company’s inventory.
- Work with Revenue Cycle Management to minimize and eliminate write offs.
- Supervise management of property portfolio: leases/rents/purchase agreements, acquisitions, and property tax payments.
- Supervise payroll accounting function, processes payroll journals.
- Obtain and maintain SUI or other tax documents required for payroll purposes.
- Manage and comply with local, state and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to optimize internal controls.
- Maintain financial staff performance by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, and planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans strictly confidential.
Audit and Compliance
- Coordinate the information, schedules and preparation for annual audits.
- Maintain audit files, including budget, budget narrative, financial reports, sub-award documents and other relevant paperwork.
- Protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
Additional Management
- Work with IT and other departments on automation of accounting workflows.
- Examine and document expense reports by sub-contractors/grantees, and ensure they meet contractual requirements.
- Review project payment vouchers for accurate processing in accounting system.
- Review wire transfer requests from field offices.
- Reconcile project advance and other accounts with general ledger.
- Work with the CFO on quarterly/annual basis on budgeting and re-forecasting of Partners’ financial targets, including portfolio revenues and expenses.
- Stay up-to-date with U.S. Govt. regulations on cost principles and audits.
- Review of credit card expense reports and statements.
- Review and monthly reporting of travel claims and advances reconciliation.
- Assist with processing payments in a timely manner (wires and checks).
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Manage month-end and the year-end closing processes.
- Conduct general administrative functions as requested by HR department.
Qualifications:
- CPA - Preferred
- At least eight (8) years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience managing multi-state accounting functions.
- Strong computer skills and experience using financial management software.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP.
- Impeccable personal and professional ethics.
- Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
- Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interest of the organization.
