We are looking for a proactive person who seeks opportunities to make valuable contributions to ongoing and future projects. The Research and Development Technician II position in our Dalton, MA location offers a great opportunity to work in an environment that fosters learning and collaboration. This position will support the Research & Development group as we continue developing processes and products that enhance performance of currency substrate and security feature integration for central banks around the globe. Work will require careful replication of established methods always aiming to minimize variation in execution. Additionally, creativity in lab methods will be needed to develop new laboratory tests targeted to predict product behavior in Crane internal processes as well as in currency circulation. Responsibilities include:
· Work with scientists and technologists to understand testing requests and clearly communicate results.
· Prepare and test materials according to existing methods (chemical, physical, and optical), including testing and analysis of raw materials, paper, security features, and printed banknotes.
· Delivers quality data in support of research, development, and project work as requested.
· Adhere to proper documentation practices and version control for documents to ensure digital hygiene.
· Produce laboratory-scale banknote paper including quality watermark and incorporation of security features in lab hand sheets.
· Support in the development and documentation of new laboratory test methods and set-ups that predict product performance in specific areas of interest defined by project needs.
Requirements:
· Minimum 2-year Associate, Trade and/or Certificate program completion and/or 2-5 years of paper industry experience.
· Ability to follow established procedures and perform accurate mathematical calculations.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and the ability to learn other software applications as needed.
· Energetic, motivated, and willing to learn and perform. Demonstrates a natural curiosity, inquisitiveness, and ability to build professional relationships.
· Team player who works collaboratively with other technicians to produce data in support of research and customer projects.
· Communicates with clarity and accuracy to colleagues and customers. Good interpersonal verbal and written skills to support their work.
· Ability to review, understand, and execute test methods and standard work procedures under minimum supervision.
· Ability to act as a mentor for Technician I associates to help train and demonstrate best practices.
Preferred
· Bachelor’s degree with lab experience.
· Experience in physical/mechanical property testing
· Experience in testing, documenting, writing, and implementing new test methods.
· Skilled in working with chemicals including acids, bases, and solvents while diligently wearing personal protective equipment.
· Strong analytical ability coupled with demonstrated troubleshooting skills.
· Experience leading efforts in such as safety and/or laboratory organizational activities.
