Headquartered in Malvern, PA, CPI is supported by: >2,500 global associates, 7 manufacturing sites, 12 corporate offices and 43 service branches. The Buyer/Planner will be located in our Mt. Prospect, IL office.
The Buyer/Planner will be responsible for all purchasing activities for the assigned commodities, assuring the continuous supply of materials to support customer service goals and production requirements, and managing material levels to meet inventory turn goals.
What you will be doing:
Purchasing
Cost containment and cost reduction activities.
Develop and implement appropriate processes for improved efficiency and/or cost reductions.
Analyze and resolve unfavorable purchase price variances. Develop and execute strategies to mitigate purchase price variances.
Participate in cost reduction activities.
Utilize appropriate processes for improved efficiency and/or cost reductions (i.e., blanket orders, spot orders, contracts, supplier inventory programs, kan-ban, just in time, etc.).
Sourcing/Procurement
Drive supplier selection process with engineering / stakeholders
Continuous rationalization of supplier base.
Continuous optimization of supplier base.
Manage commodities and monitor and report on market trends.
Evaluate the need to develop alternate suppliers and materials and execute.
Ensure current competitive market pricing.
Identify and manage single/sole sourced parts.
Conduct negotiations (price, delivery, terms, etc.)
RoHS management
Place timely purchase orders to acquire materials and consumables.
Supplier Management
Build supplier relationship conduct yearly visits and evaluations.
Monitor supplier performance levels against specified targets and implement corrective action when needed.
Materials Planning
Evaluates and acts upon the MRP requirements and Kanban levels for assigned commodities.
Maintain database (lead-times, EOQs, Vendors Master, RoHS, commodity codes, cost, quotes, etc.)
Release purchase requisitions and orders on a timely manner.
Proactively identifies and takes appropriate corrective actions to prevent material shortages. Expedites materials as required and provides accurate material status information to other departments and site management.
Inventory Control
Minimize Excess and Obsolete inventory.
Ensure purchased material usage is processed correctly & timely (Debits, Receiving & Invoice discrepancies, RTVs, NCs, scrap, E&O, samples).
Managerial
Work with planning, engineering, accounting, manufacturing, sales, and customer service to improve Purchasing Value Added Services.
Create, revise, or implement processes and procedures as required.
Enforce company safety rules, policies and procedures.
Maintains department Visual Boards and 5S.
Consistent with Cranes Operational Excellence focus, participates in Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen events that will eliminate waste and result in significant benefits (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Growth, Cost) throughout the Supply Chain.
What you need to be successful in this position:
Education, Experience and Required Licenses:
BS degree in degree in a related field, such as management, business, engineering or supply chain. ISMs CPSM and/or APICS CPIM certification preferred.
3 years of increasing responsibility in purchasing
International procurement experience is desirable.
Technical Competencies:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to write or speak about complicated issues in a manner that will be understood by all
Strong background in all areas ofpurchasing
Strong Attention to details - able to proof their ownwork
Strategicand tacticalthinker with the foresightand abilityto understand how their decisions and actions will trickle down to all levels of the firm
Excellent math skills as need to process data and understand the meaning of the data.
- Proficient in Microsoft PC based software and MRP/ERP systems.

Exceptionally well organized and able to prioritize their work
Ability to set and track goals for themselves
Ability to multi-task and work on more than one project at a time
Able to commit to and meet project deadlines
Physical Requirements for this role:
Office environment; must be able to perform frequent repetitive tasks, and be able to sit at and operate a computer for 80% of the day.
Able to lift/carry10-20pounds such as basic office supply boxes from one office to another10% of the day.
Travel tosuppliers orcustomer sites as required. Travel to critical trade shows and company meetingsas required.
