Position Description
Position: Music Teacher/Assistant Band Director
Reports to: Principal
Terms of Employment: Ten-month work year, unless otherwise specified
Pay Grade: Beginning $35,000 Annually $1200.00 Supplement
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary: Percussion background preferred. However, all candidates will be considered. The Assistant Band Director is responsible for assisting in all areas of the band program including, but not limited to:
1) Assisting with the various administrative tasks of the program and collaborating with the head band director in the planning of the instrumental music curriculum
2) Assisting with concert and marching band rehearsals and attending all practices and performances.
3) Possibly teaching General Music or Percussion classes.
4) Assisting middle school feeder band programs
Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
Certification and Licensure Requirements: Must hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License.
Professional Requirements:
- Teaches North Carolina Standard Course of Study/ Common Core and Essential Standards for assigned grade.
- Responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
- Obtaining and maintaining membership with NCBA and NCMEA as well as staying current with their policies and procedures.
- Conducts lessons or instructional activities at a brisk pace, appropriate to students.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior required to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.
- Instructs students in proper care and use of materials and equipment storage areas and controls the use of materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
- Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and understanding and prepare progress reports.
- Speaks fluently and precisely and presents lessons or instructional activities using concepts and language understandable to the students.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.
