Secondary School Assistant Principal/Athletic Director This position is a permanent full-time ten (10) month (206 days) position available as soon as possible.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A valid Pennsylvania Certificate to practice as a Secondary School Principal
  • Previous assistant principal experience preferred but not required or at least five years successful experience as a classroom teacher.
  • At least three years of successful experience as a coach and/or advisor.
  • To have knowledge of computers and their educational applications.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Secondary School Assistant Principal:


JOB GOAL:
To assist the principal in providing leadership, supervision, and coordination of the total educational program within the school.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the principal with supervision and administration of the total instructional program of the school.
  • Promotes staff and parent participation in school activities.
  • Possesses knowledge for proper contract administration of the present teacher's agreement.
  • Assists the principal in the training and evaluation of personnel.
  • Assists the principal in supervising and implementing the master scheduling process.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of computers and their application in the school setting.
  • Assists the principal in preparation and administration of the school budget.
  • Attends school-sponsored activities, functions, athletic events, and special events held to recognize student achievement.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals, other publications and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  • Requisitions supplies and equipment, conducting inventories, maintaining records and checking on receipts for such material.
  • Conducts safety inspections and safety skills activities.
  • Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and works with the attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up actions.
  • Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body, and deals with special cases as necessary. This includes primary responsibility for Saturday Detention, staff and student assignments and changes in the program.
  • Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
  • Approves athletic lists of eligibility; acts on athletic details.
  • Serves as principal in the absence of the regular principal.
  • Supervises lunches including cafeteria, halls, and all areas outside the building.
  • Attends staff meetings involving the guidance counselors, attendance officer, school psychologist, and school nurse in order to deal more effectively with specific student problems.
  • Represents the School District at all court appearances involving discipline and/or substance abuse.
  • Maintains activities calendar for the extracurricular program and community use of the building. Schedules the building for use by these various groups.
  • Coordinates the Student Assistance Team and recommends, plans and organizes assembly programs. Seeks community input from outside resources regarding the prevention and treatment of substance abuse.
  • Assists the principal with implementation of substitute information programs and evaluates substitute teachers.
  • Helps coordinate the testing programs with the Director of Guidance.
  • Approves all posters and signs to be displayed about the school.
  • Has the authority to initiate prosecution of students under Act 145 of 1996 regarding school tobacco control.
  • Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time-to-time assign.

JOB GOAL:
To help establish and maintain athletic programs so that each student has adequate opportunity to participate in extracurricular athletic activities to foster physical skills, a sense of worth, competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sports, and principles of fair play.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Is responsible to the principal for all matters involving interscholastic athletics, including both boys' and girls' activities. Assists in making recommendations and keeps the principal informed concerning all matters pertaining to athletics.
  • Represents the school at athletic meetings when assigned, including conference, county, District 10, state, and other meetings in which the school is involved. Informs the principal as to what transpired.
  • Stresses with all coaches the importance of communicating the Athletic Drug and Alcohol policy and appropriate conduct to all athletes.
  • Participates in the recruitment, training and evaluation of the coaching staff.
  • Prepares a budget each year to cover the required expenditures necessary to conduct the total interscholastic athletic program and extracurricular programs.
  • Keeps on file a complete financial record of receipts and expenditures.
  • Keeps an inventory of all athletic equipment and supplies.
  • Arranges schedules for athletic contests and files contracts in the director's office.
  • Arranges transportation for all athletic teams, band, and cheerleaders and other activities.
  • Contracts all home game officials and has checks prepared for them.
  • Attends all games, meets, contests, or appoints a representative to act in his/her place. Functions as the school's representative at all athletic functions.
  • Arranges for all athletes to have medical examinations in conjunction with the school doctor and nurse.
  • Approves all recommendations for athletic awards. Obtains from coaches the names of team members who are recommended for letter awards.
  • Provides for the proper administration and supervision of all athletic contests__this would include:
    • sellers and taking tickets
    • police protection
    • medical and ambulance protection
    • seating facilities
    • providing necessary facilities for the visiting teams
    • make sure that facilities for contests are adequately prepared
  • Keeps a central medical supply, if possible, and distributes medical supplies to the various teams as needed.
  • Makes sure that the following are checked and in proper working order:
    • public address system
    • scoreboards
    • lights for gymnasium and football field
  • Makes sure that the facilities have been cleaned properly after use.
  • Arranges with the maintenance for any repairs of the facilities and make recommendations to the proper personnel for the improvement of facilities.
  • Maintains complete athletic records for all sports including: scores of all contests, lists of boys and girls who are members of teams, lists of boys and girls qualifying for letters, etc.
  • Sends schedules and team information to schools listed on the schedules and works with the news media to promote all athletic teams
  • Makes arrangements for printing and delivery of school calendars and athletic schedules.
  • Such other reasonable duties as are assigned by the principal or superintendent for the general well-being of the student.
