Job Description
The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for overseeing the discipline at a project level and managing the project discipline budget on simple to complex projects of all sizes. The Lead Engineer has a thorough understanding of the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases. The Lead Mechanical Engineer possesses the ability to coordinate with internal and external parties, manage multiple complex tasks, establish priorities and direct the work of others. The Lead Mechanical Engineer may work independently or at the direction of the Project Manager. The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for directing and managing the workflows and execution of design and engineering support staff (Entry-Level to Senior) to meet client expectation and project goals.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer has a thorough understanding of the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases, sizes, and levels of complexity. The Senior Mechanical Engineer possesses the ability to coordinate with internal and external parties, manage multiple complex tasks, establish priorities and direct the work of others. The Senior Mechanical Engineer shall be able to act as the mechanical point-of-contact for clients, other disciplines, and pre-con services for their scope areas, be able to complete a complex project code analysis, plan and prepare bid/permit/construction deliverables (including details and specifications), and understand the technical and design aspects of CRB’s market areas.
Responsibilities
- Interface with client and external partners
- Plan and direct work and manage a project budget form a mechanical design perspective on large complex projects
- Work with a Project Manager to proposal development, man-hour planning, project scheduling for the mechanical scope of work on intermediate level projects
- Conducting and leading field surveys of existing conditions and support of field reporting
- Identify and resolve intermediate non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and construction field surveys
- Develop intermediate internal mechanical design and engineering training presentations
- Develop construction drawing packages and write construction specifications on advanced and complex projects with little oversight
- Lead and advanced support of construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and construction progress reports
- Conduct quality checking of documents for intermediate complex projects, e.g., technical verification of design calculations and documentation, and drive overall project quality
- Provide mentorship to discipline Mechanical Engineer I and II and/or Designer I and II
- Lead advanced project system design programming and master planning with support from Senior Engineer
- Lead a team of mechanical staff in the execution of advanced projects discipline design and engineering
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (alternatively, a Bachelor’s in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical Option)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience required for Lead position, preferably in a design firm setting
- Professional Registration (Licensure)
Additional Qualifications
- Proficiency AutoCAD and Revit required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
- Proficiency in discipline specific software required
- LEED, WELL, or other sustainable design accredited professional preferred
- Advanced experience with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping systems designs required
- Advanced experience with the mechanical/plumbing/fire code, generically stated required
- Intermediate experience with other applicable industry standards required
- Intermediate experience with applicable building codes required
- Advanced experience conducting and leading field surveys of existing conditions and support of field reporting
- Proficient with advanced internal and external cross-discipline project team coordination required
- Proficient with advanced coordination with construction trade partners, vendors, and manufacturers required
- Proficient at advanced HVAC, mechanical utility, (plumbing/drainage fixture, fire protection) systems design calculations with limited supervision required
- Intermediate experience with troubleshooting issues with mechanical systems required
