Creative Alternatives, Inc is a nonprofit agency providing services for at-risk youth. Our nonpublic schools are designed to meet the special and unique needs of every student. The majority of the students we serve have a variety of emotional, social, and behavioral problems. We serve K-12 with the majority of placements in grades 3-12. Emphasis is placed on improving social skills by requiring students to be held accountable for their actions. A system of rewards and consequences is used to assist in improving their social skills, Academic subjects are given equal attention.
Our programs provide a higher level of structure and consistency and an intensely therapeutic environment to properly address internalizing and externalizing behavioral issues. All of the students in this environment have extremely diverse backgrounds and range in varying degrees, including but not limited to: emotionally disturbed, specific learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS), autism, intellectual challenges, speech and language deficits, anxiety disorders, nonverbal learning disabilities, auditory processing disorders, and other health impairments.
Position is located in Fresno, CA.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Experience within a classroom setting (preferred)
- Must meet all California Department of Education minimum criteria (criminal background check)
- Must have a valid California driver's license, meet minimum requirements for auto insurance eligibility and have a good driving record per DMV printout
- Maintain current First Aid/CPR and CPI certifications
- Must pass the LIC 503 "Health Screening Report" and pre-employment TB and drug screen
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
Must have one or more of the following:
- Minimum of 48 college units
- A.A. or B.A./S. Degree (preferred)
- CBEST Certificate
- Or successfully complete the Proficiency Exam within 60 days of hire (three attempts will be allowed)
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with taking daily student attendance
- Ensure consistent, on-going supervision of students at all times to ensure student safety
- Assist with whole and small group classroom instruction
- Collect academic and behavioral data for students as directed by supervising Teacher
- Provide after-school detention supervision as needed
- Daily transportation of students to and from school, all related school functions including field trips and off-site intramural sporting events, picking up and dropping off of official school related documents, and all other transportation needs as specified by administration
- Setting limits and providing consequences appropriate for Special Education students who may display challenging behaviors including but not limited to:
assault toward peers or staff, self-harm, explosive or violent actions, sexualized acting out, toileting issues, impulsive and disruptive behaviors, verbal outbursts, property destruction, elopement out of classroom or off of school grounds, etc. Assist students with hygiene, toileting, restroom support
- Knowledge of individual student IEP goals and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) orBehavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
- Complete and turn in Behavioral Intervention Reports (BERs) and Incident Reports within 24 hours as needed to document student crisis
- Implement CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention strategies as last resort for student or staff safety
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Abilities:
- Ability to build and effectively maintain working relationships with students
- Ability to work as a member of the educational team in any classroom assigned
- Ability to organize students in an academic task, individually, as a whole or in small groups
- Ability to facilitate group activities in non-classroom situations
- Ability to maintain effective control of the students in your care
- Must be able to sit or stand for duration necessary to complete assigned job duties
