JOB SUMMARY:
The Executive Director (ED) has overall strategic and operational responsibility for Creative York staff, programs, and execution of its mission. The ED, develops policies designed to maximize the organization’s funding and develops goals and strategies for all fundraising campaigns. Directs and oversees all policies, objectives, and initiatives regarding the organization’s activities. The Executive Director must have a clear ability to further Creative York’s mission and develop budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.The ED reports directly to the Board of Directors and is a key member of the Executive Committee (EC). The ED will be responsible for overall operation of the organization including personnel, finances, programming, public relations, and facility oversight.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Management
- Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
- Actively engage and energize Creative York volunteers, board members, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders
- Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; and seek and build board involvement with strategic direction
- Lead, coach, develop, and retain high-performance employees.
- Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents
- Represent Creative York to the public
- Personally build and nurture relationships with political, corporate and civic leaders primarily in pursuit of new financial resources
Personnel Management
- Has lead responsibility for management of Creative York staff
- Identifies, interviews, and hires staff to fill vacancies
- Oversees pre-employment interviews, researches references, and identifies salary guidelines
- Oversees orientation of new staff members including explanation of benefits, working conditions, and expectations for assistance during special events
- Is responsible for new-hire short-term/probation period evaluations
- Is responsible for annual staff evaluations
- Identifies need for and conducts corrective action interviews
- Conducts staff meetings
- Ensure that all staff members are performing at their peak potential
- Reports to Board of Directors and EC on staffing status, including compliance with personnel budget targets
- Leads the administrative staff and supports the Board of Directors in successfully accomplishing activities in fundraising and development, special fundraising, events, marketing, PR & press budget & finances, and customer relations
Marketing & Promotion
- Has final responsibility for the organization’s comprehensive marketing plan and for all
Creative York activities.
- Ensures that marketing dollars are allocated to the best targets for Creative York programs and events.
Office Management
- Supervises office operations and functions
- Ensures that office functions follow an explicit workflow with appropriate checklists
Fiscal Oversight
- Develops the Creative York annual budget for Board review and approval
- Is responsible, along with Creative York Treasurer and Board, for monitoring the administrative budget and identifying issues needing their attention.
- Reviews and authorizes all invoices and expenses
- Works closely with Treasurer to monitor administrative financial position on a regular basis
- Is alert to financial issues needing Treasurer and/or Board action
- Ensures that Creative York tax reporting and payments are timely and accurate – payroll, gross receipts tax, 990
- Work closely with the Creative Director regarding grant writing and submission, and the identification of additional revenue opportunities
Advocacy
- Creative York representative at public input meetings including State and local appearances
Other Community Involvement:
- Support other local arts and cultural organizations

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the non-profit sector
- 4-year degree in related field preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a supervisor or manager is required
- Excellent computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office tools, Social Media, Email, customer/donor database systems; experience with WordPress/blogging is a plus
- Knowledge of grant writing and the grant writing process
- Experience in program and contract development, public relations, budget and finance issues, and board relations
- Strong leadership, management, and coaching skills
- Valid Driver’s license
