Position Purpose and Objectives
Key components of this position are to assist with the daily, monthly and quarterly Accounting reporting activities and to improve related processes and efficiencies in the department. Ensure accounting activities are carried out in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Individual must be flexible and able to perform multiple tasks with minimal supervision. Position will perform other duties as assigned by the Controller or CAO
Major Duties and Essential Functions
- Assist with training Staff / Senior Staff Accountants in their daily, monthly and quarterly duties and serve as backup when needed. Assist with assigning, coordinating and reviewing work performed by staff as requested by Controller / CAO.
- Document procedures as needed.
- Assist with the preparation of the monthly financial reports, board reports, ALM reports and variance analysis as needed.
- Assist with the preparation of the Quarterly 5300 Call Report as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual audited financial statements, budget, and tax returns (Form 945, 990 & 990t) as needed.
- Assist in preparation of schedules for external auditors and examiners as needed.
- Assist with preparing and posting GL entries as needed.
- Assist with performing and review of daily / monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger account reconciliations as needed.
- Special projects and other duties as directed by the Controller or CAO.

Specific knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position:
Excellent knowledge of credit union policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, regulatory accounting, and state and federal regulations.
Strong background in finance and accounting.
Good organizational and administrative skills.
Ability to identify problems and provide solutions
Ability to exercise good judgment, accept responsibilities and make decisions
Ability to lead and coordinate activities for the department or a project team
Strong computer skills and have ability to effectively utilize new software programs to perform routine tasks.
Ability to operate software specific to the credit union's accounting system and member account information.
Proven experience working with spreadsheet and data with an intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel.
Good judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive topics
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in finance/accounting from four-year college or university. CPA or potential CPA candidate is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of two years related experience in a credit union or other financial institution.
