SUMMARY:
The Production Supervisor plays a key role within the Manufacturing Team focusing heavily on driving improvements and supporting an environment of excellence. Production Supervisors will supervise, organize, and control the functional operations of the assigned production department as directed by the Operations Manager. The Production Supervisor is responsible for employee safety, productivity, on-time delivery, and quality of products produced.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cultivates and promotes a strong safety culture and follows all safety policies, procedures and regulations.
- Identifies and communicates workplace hazards and corrects or seeks assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Responsible for interpreting schedules, coordinating appropriate manpower to meet area goals, and to ensure uninterrupted flow of products and/or services.
- Provides leadership and clear direction to the production staff to ensure quality, efficiency, and other area goals are met consistently.
- Consults new employees on how to safely use machinery and follow procedures.
- Assists in the development, communication, and deployment of departmental policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the execution of the Operations Annual Operating Plan (AOP) goals and objectives.
- Leads and drives continuous improvement initiatives to improve working conditions as well as departmental safety performance.
- Maintains a high level of housekeeping standards and organization of assigned work areas.
- Facilitates training, coaching, and employee performance reviews, including cross training within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Communicates and enforces company policies and procedures to maintain effective employee relations.
- Maintains working relationship with the union by following the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Proven ability to multitask with excellent time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate at all levels of the organization.
- Problem prevention and problem-solving skills required. Must be solution-oriented.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, leadership, and labor union representatives.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED required. Post-secondary education in a related field is preferred.
- 3 years of supervision experience required.
- Lean manufacturing experience preferred, but not required.
- Metal fabrication and weld experience OR liquid and powder paint experience desired.
WORKING CONDITIONS/OTHER:
- 1st shift, Salary-Exempt, 40 hours per week. Monday through Friday, some Saturdays required.
- Little to no travel required.
- This position is regularly exposed to noise, odors, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, drafts, vibration, electricity, heights, and pinch point hazards.
- Typically requires standing, walking, and sitting on a regular basis. Approximately 60% of time will be spent on the production floor and the remaining 40% will be in an office.
- Specific vision requirements include depth perception and peripheral vision. Sustained visual concentration on numbers, policy documents, etc. while viewing small areas such as monitors and small screens.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment law, compliance, trends, new technologies and best practices in areas of responsibilities.
