Position Overview

Responsible for developing and executing the strategic sales and marketing strategy for asphalt and aggregate lines of business within the Shelly Northeast group to drive revenue and increase market share growth.  Competency requirements include business acumen, customer focus, developing direct reports, drive for results, strategic agility and building effective teams.   

 

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Promote a safe working culture for all employees.
  • Implement the NE Division sales strategies; uphold corporate standards, drive new sales, increase market share and profits.
  • Drive operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company and regional goals.
  • Provide leadership and direction in sales and marketing efforts resulting in maximum product sales, meeting or exceeding customer expectations, and driving maximum profitability.
  • Manage and provide leadership for the sales staff, perform regular performance reviews and develop stretch performance and development goals.
  • Participate in the demand forecast process. Review and monitor weekly and update monthly.
  • Interact regularly with operations and other lines of business to be aware of any internal/external conditions that may impact sales and/or the customer.
  • Continually evaluate the market, maintain awareness of the competitive environment and profitable status of each account.
  • Identify opportunities to grow the regional customer base and prepare action plans to convert sales prospects into new accounts.
  • Conduct presentations and discussions to promote the product.
  • Conduct visits to ongoing projects to understand product applications and to help in developing strong customer relationships.
  • Participate in local marketing events.
  • Identify and resolve client concerns should any arise.
  • Travel extensively within the region and as necessary to support and foster the customer relationship.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

  • A proven track record of building and maintaining solid relationships with customers, vendors and internal company personnel with the ability to overcome objections
  • Experience in the building materials sector highly desired (specific experience in asphalt and/or aggregates a plus).
  • Creative and confident with a vision for the future.
  • A thorough knowledge of construction products and services.
  • Must have strong computer skills (Microsoft office, including Excel).
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills along with exceptional follow-up.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated success in managing employees.
  • Project management skills: Organized with the ability to think logically and track multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain all documents and procedures in accordance with current SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) standards
  • Proficiently utilize Shelly/CRH platforms as appropriate (i.e., Viewpoint, Infield, MS Office suite, etc.)
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required: Work requires significant travel to current and potential clients.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Support and promote adherence to all Shelly Company policies and Safety practices procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies and Safety Procedures
  • Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and supervisors with additional duties as needed.

 

 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of knowledge, skills and abilities.  Advanced degree preferred.

 

 

Language Skills:

Excellent interpersonal skills and exemplary oral/written communication.  Must have effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and be able to listen, present and receive critical feedback.

 

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to prepare annual budgets and work with and/or administer budget; ability to answer questions and present financial data to Regional President and others.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to analyze and interpret complex data and formulate strategic solutions that ultimately support the business, drive initiatives and position the organization for success and operational excellence.
