What is a Recreation Specialist?
The Recreation Specialist is responsible for assessing the needs and planning and implementation of individualized therapeutic recreation interventions in home and in the community, to improve the functioning of individuals who have a wide variety of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, behavioral, developmental or age-related needs.
Available Schedule:
Location: Northern VA, Various Locations
Schedule: Monday-Friday, Varied Hours, Some Weekends (40hrs/wk Full Time)
Compensation: $19.33/hr
Qualified Candidates Must have:
- 2-4 year degree in Recreation Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation.
- Minimum of one (1) year working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
- Knowledge of high intensity behavioral supports A MUST.
- Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- A Firm understanding of the APIED process and the ability to meet deadlines in timely manner.
- Ability to effectively communicate with non-verbal individuals.
- Detail oriented, highly organized, and demonstrates exceptional time management skills.
- Ability to think outside of the box, resourceful, and can work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Equivalent to one (1) year experience facilitating therapeutic recreational activities.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop and push a wheelchair.
- Ability to lift 70 pounds repetitively.
- Ability to implement strategic physical intervention techniques that require rapid physical movement.
Working Environment:
Indoor and Outdoor program site and various community locations.
