Transportation Specialist

Description

The Transportation Specialist will oversee transportation and site unloading services for all customer shipments for all Crown Facilities and Intercompany Shipments between the Crown Technical Systems facilities.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Work with Estimation team to develop estimated costs for transportation and unloading services for new jobs being bid
• Work with Estimation team to develop a budget to add to the customer bid
• Ensures the efficient running of the organization’s logistical operations.
• Coordinates transportation services including via truck, train, air, and sea, to provide efficient and timely transportation of goods and freight among facilities and to customers.
• Coordinate unloading services using cranes and other methods to dismount at customer site
• Determines when to use the in-house truck fleet and/or outside freight companies.
• Oversees rail and harbor freight operations used to process container and other bulk shipments.
• Builds and maintains relationships with outside carriers, freight companies and crane companies.
• Effectively negotiate rates and terms with new and existing vendors for services rendered
• Completes fulfillment shipments using cost-effective service providers such as less-than-truckload carriers and air-forwarders.
• Manage the transportation and unloading spend and track against bid estimate and job budget to report profitability of the cost-center.
• Reviews financial reports, identifying and recommending ways to reduce transportation costs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Proficient with or able to quickly learn software systems used for tracking and billing freight operations.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Experience/Education:

• Three to five years of experience working in a Purchasing or Logistics related role.
• Experience coordinating heavy/oversized load experience a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Must be able to traverse the production floor as needed.
• May be required to complete job site visits.
