Position Summary:
- The Foreman positon will oversee a 2-3 member construction crew and has extensive knowledge of underground fiber install operations and an expert operator in the telecom industry. The ideal Foreman is one who is safety, quality, and customer focused and has a strong work ethic. The Foreman will also be required to operate the mini-excavator or case backhow to dig on and around live utilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ensures locates are correct.
- Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
- Bring problems to the attention of the Supervisor, Safety Coordinator, or HR.
- Follow daily procedures and protocols set forth in job orientations and trainings.
- Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
- Assist in training laborers with performing the maintenance and repair duties, as required or assigned.
- Assists laborers with hand digging and potholing when needed.
Success Factors/job competencies
- Foremans/operators must have good eye sight and better than average coordination in order to operate both hand and foot levers simultaneously.
- Must have good judgement in order to perform complicated tasks and must be able to work closely with other crafts without constant supervision.
- Skilled foremans/operators are constantly on alert and observant of their surroundings.
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, problem solving, solutions oriented, accountability, and priorization skills.
- Ability to work from construction specifications or blueprints and understand utility locates.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions, give direction, adapt to change, and establish relationships.
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
- Ability to perform manual work requireing periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to drive and operate the equipment under varying working conditions.
Qualifications required:
- High School Diploma and/or equivalent.
- Class A CDL Driver's License.
- 3 year's experience operating equipment in the underground utility field.
- 3 year’s industry experience (i.e., underground utility construction)
- Ability to operate all heavy equipment needed.
Working Conditions / Environment: This position operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires the ability to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, and kneeling.
The physical demands described in this job description represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is labor intensive, with lifting required. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and/or rainy spring, summer, and fall weather.
Assume responsibility for work outcomes and results of other workers. May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels on sites of projects being managed or coordinated. When working onsite, will be required to wear common protective of safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and safety vest.
