Patient Population:
Infants experiencing significant life threatening conditions who require multi-system support and monitoring.
Summary
- Performing medical procedures; for example, inserting intravenous lines, performing tests, and administering medications.
- Assisting the NICU provider team in medical procedures and treatments.
- Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, such as incubators and ventilators
- Identifies stages of human growth and development and uses this information to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served.
- Identifies the psychology of developmental stages and uses this information to provide age appropriate care which fosters growth.
- Utilizes communication skills appropriate to the age, developmental stage, and literacy level of patients served.
- Recognizes and reports suspected cases of child/elder abuse in accordance with applicable statutes.
- Implements measures to maximize the safety and security of patients.
- Identifies the physiology of the newborn period and uses this information to plan appropriate nursing care.
- Identifies the pathophysiology of the ill newborn suffering single system or multi-system disease/dysfunction and uses this information to plan appropriate nursing care.
- Performs a comprehensive neonatal assessment.
- Performs a comprehensive developmental assessment of the infant.
- Develops and institutes a teaching plan for parents, including CPR instruction as needed.
Requirements
Current PA RN License
Minimum of 2 years relevant clinical nursing experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
