SUMMARY:
The Superintendent / Construction Manager (CM) will oversee daily Capex / Maintenance construction activities in a food manufacturing facility. The work may consist of new plant construction, retrofit, renovations, remodel, process improvement, maintenance, facilities, and infrastructure projects and/or construction turnaround and shutdowns. Most work is heavily focused on industrial processing and MEP trade divisions. The Superintendent / CM will work with the client to develop execution strategies and detailed plans to safely and efficiently execute the work to meet client, business, and project objectives. The Superintendent / CM must possess leadership and management qualities; both are required to successfully delivery projects. As a leader, the Superintendent / CM must have effective communication skills to build consensus with project team members and stakeholders. It is the expectation that the Superintendent / CM identify and actively communicate with area stakeholders and invests a significant amount of time to understand interdepartmental dynamics within the organization we’re serving, as well as the facility layout.
FLSA STATEMENT: This is a full-time FLSA exempt position. It requires at least 40 hours per week with the ability to work more if necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Management and leadership of construction administration, client relationships, trade contractors, and project controls activities
- Project coordination amongst client, designer, construction management team, client operations/production, EH&S, contractors/suppliers, and regulatory agencies
- Manages all on-site construction functions in accordance with the established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements approved by the client
- Chairs project coordination, progress, and owner/designer/contractor meetings and addresses key project deliverables and action items
- Holds contractors accountable for cost, schedule, scope, resources, performance, safety, and quality control throughout project lifecycles
- Generates, manages, and updates schedules in Microsoft Project
- Sequences work schedules to mitigate potential delays and identifies schedule risks well in advance of slippages. Implements remedial action to recover lost time
- Effectively forecasts Labor Costs and notifies Senior CM and/or Project Manager of potential issues
- Validates payment applications, Change Orders, and any T&M work tickets
- Effective communication with departmental stakeholders for each project while demonstrating exemplary, advanced communications regarding all aspects of the project and how it will affect client operations
- Provides client with regular updates, notifies them of issues and communicates regularly to keep them informed
- Manages the quality of installations and their conformity to applicable construction documents and regulatory requirements
- General safety supervision and awareness with the support of full-time safety specialists
- Completes a Daily Log that includes progress updates & photos, manpower on site, companies on site, daily activities being performed, key deliveries, key discussions, progress/safety issues, etc.
- Assists in client procurement activities, including the assembling of Bid Packages and Bid Review
- Facilitates Progress Meetings among trades and stakeholders
- Oversee the seamless function of construction administration duties and the up-to-date flow of project documents and information to required parties
- Coordinates with A/E on field issues and works to resolve problems
- Provides Owner with regular updates, notifies them of issues and communicates regularly to keep them informed
- Supervises all personnel at the site through subordinate leaders
- Monitors performance, progress, and manpower issues; resolves as necessary
- Completes Safe Work Permits, JSAs, HSAs and other safety-related permitting as needed
- Performs other duties as mandated by the Senior CM and Program Manager
- On-Call every other weekend
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 8 years of related construction management experience
- Minimum Bachelor’s in Construction Management, or a relevant Construction/Engineering degree
- Electrical, controls, distribution, and automation experience is highly desirable
- MEP Trade certifications and licenses are desirable
- Ability to proficiently interpret and understand P&IDs, Drawings, Specifications, and other relevant construction documents
- The successful CM candidate must have experience in the design and construction of industry facilities and experience in managing projects in an operating facility
- Experience with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), particularly related to Food Safety and FDA regulations
- Ability to navigate and effectively communicate with cross-functional teams and project stakeholders
- Strong focus on health, safety, and quality
- OSHA 30-hour is required and CHST or STSC is preferred
- First Aid/CPR/AED certified
- Technically proficient in using IT systems including, but not limited to Procore, BlueBeam, SharePoint, MS Project, MS Office tools, and other dashboard reporting tools
