What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Data Analyst position at CSS?
An entry level GIS Data Analyst to support human community vulnerability assessments and other socioeconomic projects. This position is located in Silver Spring, MD or may be a remote position. It will require the ability to work effectively with a team of scientists.
Key duties/responsibilities include:
- Pull, consolidate, and prepare secondary data for geospatial analysis
- Conduct spatial data analysis, manage data, and develop geospatial tools
- Create maps and other geospatial data visualization products
- Prepare metadata and complete tasks associated with archive of final datasets
- Conduct literature reviews on topics related to geospatial projects
- Prepare geodatabases for dissemination to partners, clients, and others
- Contribute to technical reports and peer review journal articles
- Set and meet deadlines for completion of work in timely manner
Requirements:
- BS degree in a relevant discipline and 1-2 years of relevant experience required
- Background in a social science discipline or socioeconomic research is preferred
- Proficient with ArcMap 10.X, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online
- Competence with R is preferred
- Experience with data procurement, preparation, spatial analysis, workflows, and spatial processing
- Proficient in the methods, practices, and techniques of spatial modeling, including raster and vector analysis and cartography
- Detail and accuracy oriented
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with basic software packages (e.g., MSWord, Excel, etc.) and cloud-based collaboration platforms (e.g., Google Suite)
