We are recruiting a Transport Coordinator on a full-time permanent basis at our site in Port Salford.
Shift: 4 on 4 off nights
Job Description
As a Transport Coordinator you will be in charge of effectively planning driver and vehicle resources to achieve delivery/collection times, whilst optimising resources and adhering to WTD and drivers’ hours legislation.
Main Responsibilities of the Transport Coordinator:
- Using the Driver rota, planning runs according to shift pattern and available hours, taking into account holidays and sickness
- Liaising with the shunting operation covering pre loading and unloading operation
- Ensuring that service levels are achieved and maintained, in conjunction with other departments
- Controlling equipment through sign in/sign out procedure
- Ensuring legal compliance regarding any defects, services, MOT’s, etc.
- Carrying out disciplinary hearings, return to work meetings, substance misuse procedure, etc. in order to maintain standards and ensure that employees work at an appropriate level
- Ensuring any risk assessments at the depot are organised and carried out accordingly
- Ensuring all accidents/incidents/near misses are logged and reported in line with company procedures
- Maintaining clear and effective communication with drivers, communicating accurate start times, load information, directions, additional shifts, etc.
- Increasing staff retention and maintaining good morale, reporting any driver’s issues or concerns to management.
- Ensuring adherence to all statutory and legal requirements, adhering to all health & safety/ safe systems of work
Qualifications
- Significant knowledge & experience of tachograph/ driving rules and regulations
- CPC National desirable but not essential
- Previous management/ supervisory experience
- Attention to detail/accuracy
- Planning and organising skills
- Negotiating skills, ability to influence and steer
- Adaptable and methodical approach to work/training
- Conscientious and reliable
- Excellent communication skills in order to deliver accurate information
- Good IT skills including Microsoft office packages
- Effectively prioritise work load in order to meet set deadlines
- Able to work as part of a team or individually
- Have knowledge of Road Transport Directive and current drivers’ hours
- Be professional, approachable and helpful to ensure smooth running of the general operation
- Significant transport experience in FMCG environment
