Our Spalding site are now recruiting for a Transport Operator on a full time, permanent basis.
Working Hours: 07:00 - 16.00 / 11:00 - 20:00
Salary: Up to £38,956 per annum, depending on experience
Job Description
The purpose of a Transport Operator is to be responsible for the daily planning of Company and/or third party resources. Effectively managing vehicle utilisation and ensuring drivers are given clear and precise instructions.
Ensuring that all service levels are met cost effectively and within the constraints of drivers’ hours and Health & Safety regulations.
Key Duties of a Transport Operator
- Ensuring that all elements of the job are effectively communicated to drivers and sub-contractors.
- Plan the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles, sub-contractors and agencies ensuring that all Company sites are fully considered at all times.
- Organise sub-contractors to ensure they are used cost effectively.
- Ensure that all drivers are working within a safe environment and follow driver hours’ regulations.
- Liaising with retail department teams to optimise fleet/driver utilisation, identifying and resolving problems affecting delivery on time.
- Close liaison with other operators and team leaders to discuss efficiencies and agreed operational practices.
- Assist in the control of equipment, ensuring that customer requirements are met and recorded.
- Effectively manage the balance between own fleet and sub contract requirements, identifying and suggesting any areas for improvement
- Conducting investigations into accidents or issues of driver performance and raising with Team Leaders and HR to ensure they are dealt with efficiently and consistently.
- Working alongside fleet to ensure timely return of vehicles
- Working with Compliance to ensure trucks are legal and information is downloaded in a timely manner
- Assist Team Leaders in speaking to drivers about Virtual Risk Manager and improving driving style to improve FW MPG and overall safety and to ensure that costs are managed in accordance with the KPI’s.
- Undertake additional tasks/duties as may be required by Management from time to time.
Qualifications
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- Experience of managing own workload within a pressurised environment
- Demonstrable capability of dealing with conflicting priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills that have been used to support a customer focused operation
- A sound understanding of vehicle planning within a transport environment or similar
- Sound geographical knowledge
- Basic understanding of driver’s hours regulations/Tachograph law
- Able to work to challenging deadlines in a pressurised environment
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Written and verbal communication
- Proficient in Word and Excel
