This position is located in the Carpentry section of Facilities Maintenance and performs journeyman level carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, alternation, and repair of County facilities to include but not limited to, fabricating and repair of a variety of wooden structures, furnishings, and furniture.
- Performs general carpentry and renovation work in the construction, repair or alteration of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows and screens
- Selects, cuts and trims lumber to size, builds, erects, repairs and/or installs fences, partitions, cabinets, tables, shelves, bookcases, doors, window frames, cabinets, etc. according to sketches and specifications
- Participates in demolition of structures, and debris cleanup
- Build and hang doors and repair tables, chairs and desks
- Sands, paints or stains walls, woodwork, cabinets, tables and other wooden articles
- Set up, adjust and operate power saw, drill press, planer and other power tools
- Purchases material and supplies, as necessary, obtaining items from qualified vendors
Graduation from high school or GED and three (3) years of experience in maintenance or building trades work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Driving is an essential function of this position. To be considered, you must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. If your driver’s license is from another state, you will be required to obtain and show proof of a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire.
Negative drug screen and background check are required.
- Knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the carpentry trade
- Knowledge of the tools and materials used in repairing and constructing wooden articles and tools and equipment related to the painting and maintenance trades
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards of building trades and the associated safety precautions
- Ability to make accurate arithmetical calculations
- Skilled in the use and care of a variety of hand and power tools and woodworking machines necessary to perform, carpentry, paint and maintenance tasks
