Job Description:
Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Finance, the Controller is responsible for directing the accounting and fiscal activities of the College including general accounting and general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, cash management, accounts payable, tax document preparation, and general business planning. The incumbent is also responsible for oversight of the annual audit.
Essential Functions:
1. General Accounting:
- Responsible for the coordination of the monthly accounting close;
- Analyze general ledger accounts, prepare and review reconciliations;
- Review and approve accounting transactions affecting the general ledger;
- Responsible for reconciliation of temporary and permanently restricted net assets;
- Review of bi-weekly and monthly general ledger payroll transactions to ensure accuracy;
- Supervise and coordinate monthly and year-end close.
2. Cash Management:
- Review and supervise daily cash flow and daily cash reconciliation;
- Responsible for federal fund drawdowns through the Department of Education's G5 system.
- Along with the Vice President of Finance and the Chief Operating Officer, strategically manage the College's unrestricted and restricted cash.
3. Accounts Payable:
- Supervise the accounts payable process including timely review and payment of invoices and related coding to ensure accuracy of entry into Banner;
- Sign accounts payable checks weekly;
- Work with accounts payable staff to ensure unclaimed property is properly reported;
- Ensure quality customer service to all internal and external customers.
4. Fixed Assets:
- Responsible for overseeing the College's fixed asset system;
- Review of all fixed asset transactions as prepared by Finance staff;
5. Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review the monthly financial statements, review and analyze along with the Associate Vice President of Finance,
- Assist in variance analysis on revenue and expense accounts, investigating any significant differences or issues;
- Annual preparation of forms 990, MA Form PC, 990-T, MA Form 3ABC, 1099 and others.
6. Compliance, Internal Controls and Policies:
- Establish and monitor internal controls to maintain the integrity of the General Ledger and compliance with accounting standards (GAAP);
- Periodic review of College finance and accounting policies, making recommendations and process improvements;
- Responsible for federal fund drawdowns through the Department of Education's G5 system;
- Work with staff and Student Financial Services to ensure ongoing compliance with regulations set forth surrounding the College's Title IV aid programs including cash management compliance.
7. Audit:
- Plan, coordinate and control the annual financial statement audit;
- Act as the primary day-to-day contact for both the audit team and Curry personnel;
- Preparation of the College's annual audited financial statements, working with the Associate Vice President of Finance.
8. Ad Hoc Projects:
- Assist senior management on various analysis, initiatives and ad hoc projects in support of financial reporting requirements or other;
- Research accounting policies, best practices and other financial related matters.
9. Confidentiality:
- Maintain confidentiality of financial records and information;
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with all internal and external constituents of the College.
Additional Functions:
- Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or their designee.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a concentration in business or accounting.
- Eight to ten years of related experience, including supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of fund accounting reporting practices, principles and theories is required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ability to create complicated spreadsheets;
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree;
- CPA licensure;
- Candidates with higher education and/or public accounting experience;
- Ability to think strategically;
- Experience with Banner Finance, a plus.
Salary Range:
$110,000 to $120,000 annually
