Skilled Laborer

Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Overview:
The Skilled Laborer position works on critical infrastructure projects throughout the Southeast. These projects include installing temporary concrete barriers, temporary impact attenuators, temporary glare screens, quick-move barriers, permanent impact attenuators, permanent barrier gates, single-faced barriers, shoulder drain installation, and concrete rehab. This position is ideal for candidates with road construction experience to include asphalt paving; installation of traffic control devices; barrier walls, and lane closures. This position requires regional and overnight travel on a weekly basis. All candidates must be able to travel.

Daily Duties
- Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy/highway construction projects;
- Assist in the installation and relocation of concrete barrier wall
- Maintain a clean job site – pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site(s) each day to eliminate potential hazards.
- Perform materials handling and storage.
- Load/unloads trucks and haul materials.
- Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
- The above-listed duties require periods of standing, walking, climbing, stooping, and bending as well as the periodic lifting of up to 50 pounds.
Job Requirements
- This position requires regional and overnight travel on a weekly basis. All candidates must be able to travel.
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, as well as within a cross-functional team environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve practical problems, make logical decisions, and communicate ideas.

Physical Requirements
- Sit, walk, kneel, bend, crawl, and crouch for extended periods of time.
- Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of machines or vehicles to exact positions.
- Ability to judge the distances between you and an object, depth perception.
- Ability to respond to a signal when it appears, reaction time.
- Coordinate the use of hands, arms, and legs fully. Reach for the handle and use it to manipulate objects and materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Vision – the ability to see details at close range and details at distance (either naturally or with correction).
- Regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Mental and visual attention is necessary to effectively complete work tasks.
Environmental Conditions
- Work outside and be exposed to the weather.
- Wear protective or safety equipment, i.e. safety boots/shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, etc.
- May be exposed to high levels of noise, grease, dust, and a variety of substances that are typically associated with a construction site.
