Skilled operation of all vessels in the fleet.
Experience with Dynamic Positioning
Live Boat cargo, stores and passengers alongside, stern in on ships
Ocean voyage preparations. Complete inventories/requisitions well in advance to allow time for procurement/completion, create worklists with deadlines and establish appropriate prioritization, train and assign work to crew, etc.
Proper understanding deck layout’s and securing of deck cargo according to the Stability plan (Chain, wire, turnbuckles, ratchets, shackle’s etc.) and the advantages/applications of each. Be able to establish best method, design/identify each component and build the layout for rough weather/long voyages
Critical path planning (Example: Proactive and thinking ahead when working on construction projects to minimize downtime and increasing production, timing transits with tides/currents, etc.)
Voyage preparations and planning for the above proficiencies.
Thorough understanding of cordage and the appropriate applications for the various lines that we use.
Compliance:
Full utilization of the VMS, including ability to provide content for template creation, modifications, etc.
Experience in auditing and proactively creating and completing corrective actions.
Thorough understanding of Sub-L, I and T, ABS and USCG requirements.
Attend and lead crews during USCG and ABS audits, with a thorough understanding of the rules to be able to “hold our ground” when necessary.
Leadership & Management:
Act as a leader and mentor to all crew by leading by example and promoting positive morale. Get out on deck, on a barge, or on a jobsite and get your hands dirty. One aspect of leading by example means willing to do and train others of the tasks that you are assigning. As the captain of the vessel, you should be capable of performing the duties of all other staff onboard.
Strategic planning and consideration (Example: Maintaining STCW rest requirements by dogging of watches, taking advantage of down-time to acquire provisions/fuel/water, spare parts, consumables, etc.)
Your vessel should be a constant training ground for all crew. Take initiative to train all hands, work through deckhand training manuals, hold serious drills, etc.
Provide critical and constructive feedback to shoreside staff about crew, equipment, voyage, etc.
Captain III: Meet/exceed all Captain I & II duties, in addition to:

Pathfinder- Lead vessel crew when starting new jobs. Identify safe routes, standard operating procedures, efficiencies, notification of relevant authorities, and training of all crews.
Vessel Compliance:
Experience in creating SOP’s and commissioning new vessels.
Experience completing both external and internal audits, as well as creating new audit criteria to enforce or improve the Curtin Standard.
Proven track record of superior performance in VMS, as well as training of others and enforcing the use of the VMS.
Leadership & Management:
Experience managing drydocks and repairs,
Vessel commissioning proficiency. “Take a dark dead boat with nothing on it, and commission it for its intended service.” Account for all expired safety/compliance items, household goods, engine room spares, towing equipment, cordage, electronics, etc.
Ability to act as your own project manager. Interact with customers, agents, Curtin shoreside team, etc. making necessary arrangements and plans. Provide detailed feedback and progress reports to necessary parties.
Excellent writing and communication skills, including drafting emails, work-plans, and other necessary correspondence while maintaining Curtin professionalism.
Knowledge of Deckhand I-III, Mate I-III, and Engineer I.

Physical dexterity and strength to operate deck machinery; work on equipment that is poorly accessible or in confined workspaces.
Must be able to keep balance/equilibrium while performing duties at various heights.
Ability to work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time.
Adequate hearing and vision ability.
Proper heat/cold tolerance, working in all weather conditions.
Comfortable working while exposed to grease, dirt, paint, water, etc. that may regularly be on your skin, hair, and clothing.
