What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Business Development position at CustomED?
CustomED (www.CustomED.org) is hiring a full-time Director of Business Development to lead and operate the cultivation and securing of new clients and partners. The Director is responsible for coordinating in attainment of overall revenue objectives. We are looking for purpose-driven, positive, and productive candidates who want to grow with our organization and make a difference with us.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Drive Revenue Growth & Partnerships
- Develop and lead systems for prospecting, cultivating and stewarding business development pipeline
- Develop proposal decks and pitch presentations
- Develop and close Statements of Work, including budget and scope development
- Support and coach CustomED team members on individual business development initiatives including providing strategic guidance on viability and structure of proposed new revenue streams
- Manage and develop national partnerships to support CustomED & client programs (non-client partnerships)
- Review and provide guidance to team on individual partnership initiatives and impact strategies to deepen engagement with an awareness of CustomED client and original programming
- Collaborate closely with the Senior Director of Engagement on business opportunities with current clients as well as successful transitioning of prospects to full client journeys
- Develop, mentor, lead, and support other team members in a consistent business development ideation to execution process
Lead Brand Management & Positioning
- Review and approve initiatives, programs, and projects to ensure they serve as centers of excellence and CustomED expertise externally
- Establish and evaluate necessary changes for continuous improvement of CustomED identity and reach
- Manage website strategy and content to support new business development initiatives
- Manage social media calendar cadence and create social media content for CustomED
- Collaborate with Education and Experiences Teams on stories and highlights of current projects and relevant topics for blog posts, website updates, social media posts, portfolio items, etc.
- Provide guidance and expertise on team’s external-facing projects and deliverables with an eye to maintain the quality of CustomED’s business development portfolio
- Drive positive and impactful change in the business from ideation to collaborative agreement, and through detailed execution and change management
Support Client Engagement, Program Strategy and Project Management
- Effectively manage relationships with client’s post-initial sales cycle to continuously monitor satisfaction levels and to identify further opportunities within the same account
- Provide quality assurance on deliverables as requested by Senior Director of Engagement
- Provide strategic direction to programs to support quality of final deliverables
- Ensure program strategy, creative ideation and program delivery are aligned with the needs of partners/clients as promised, in close collaboration with Senior Director of Engagement
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in sales and business development
- Experience working with networking and lead generation
- Experience developing sales and marketing materials, plus managing digital content
- Demonstrated experience taking initiative and moving projects forward
- Proven track record of interacting and partnering with senior leadership and working with virtual teams, live meetings, and major events
- Work with a wide variety of audiences: K-12, college, college, adult, and corporate
- Strong writing and oral presentation skills
- Excellent leadership and teamwork/people skills
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Ability to work and manage multiple projects at once
- Ability and flexibility for occasional travel

COVID-19 considerations:
We are allowing a fairly flexible schedule so team members can work from home and the office. We try to have most team members in the office at least 2 days per week. PPE is available. All team members must be fully vaccinated for COVID and MMR.
