Job Description

The Windows Server Administrator is responsible for the Windows servers in the enterprise.  This individual ensures that they are running efficiently by performing upgrade and maintenance tasks, resolving technical problems, overseeing their performance levels, ensuring security, and developing new system structures, when necessary, in both on-premises and cloud environments.  They work with other members of the server and network teams as well as the application teams to ensure their smooth functioning.  While this role will work primarily with Windows servers, it is possible they will interact with other types of technologies and applications including Linux, Macintosh, mobile devices.  Server administrators install, configure, and maintain various types of hardware and software, which often involves creating user accounts, carrying out backup and recovery functions, and monitoring the performance of servers at all times.  They administer and maintain system accounts through Active Directory.  They take part in the design, architecture, implementation, and maintenance of technology projects.  Server administrators must have the ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues on servers and other related devices.  Server Administrators often work with other teams in the organization to evaluate their technology needs, administer the network environment, set up workstations, maintain configuration management, follow and maintain policies and procedures, and document them to maintain applicability.  Server administrators need to have adequate knowledge of many types of server-based business applications.  This includes tools made by some top names in the industry.  As technical professionals, they also have to be on top of the latest developments so that they can understand how to work with new technologies.  Due to the nature of this job, the candidates should be prepared to be on rotating call with other members of the team.  This is an on-site position.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assessing the stability, security, and scalability of installed Windows systems.
  • Discussing system and server upgrades with technology stakeholders.
  • Installing or upgrading Windows systems and servers.
  • Providing technical support for application teams and system users.
  • Troubleshooting system and server errors.
  • Reviewing system error logs and user-reported errors.
  • Monitoring and updating the Windows codebase.
  • Managing user access.
  • Monitoring system performance.
  • Maintaining server architecture security and creating system backups.
  • Maintaining Configuration Management Database

Qualifications

  • 5 years experiences working as a Windows Server Administrator
  • Excellent customer service, written and oral communication skills
  • In-depth understanding of Windows Server operating systems
  • Enterprise Active Directory, Forests, Sub-Domains, etc.
  • Enterprise Group Policy Management
  • Scripting & Automation of Administrative Tasks
  • Understanding of security principles and practices
  • DNS, DHCP, Certificate Authority, Public Key Infrastructure
  • Windows Firewall & Security Concepts & Solutions
  • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manger (SCCM) & Windows Software Update Services (WSUS)
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and individually with minimal supervision
  • Basic knowledge of networking
  • IIS configuration & management a plus
