The Principal Android Dev Engineer I, reporting to the Executive Director, Flagship Mobile Apps, will work on the team that brings CVS customers their “Super app” – the customer-facing Flagship CVS Shopping and Pharmacy apps. As a Principal Android Dev Engineer I, you will be helping advance our architecture and Mobile Product, working with cross-functional teams such as design, product, analysts to deliver great user experiences. You will partner with Apps Platform Engineers, Product Managers, Engineering Managers and fellow Feature Team engineers to build products that make our powerful omni channel shopping an easy and seamless experience. You will be considered a subject matter expert in software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle as well as in our Pharmacy domain.
About this business unit: CVS Mobile Apps is the fastest growing business unit in the organization – more than million daily average users. Apart from engineering, the team consist of talented Product Owners and UX designers.
Work breakdown structure for this role:
In this role, you will be spending certain amount of time developing Android code especially complex use-cases. In addition, you will be partnering with Product, UX and Engineers to iterate the features and improving our Product.
This position can be based at one of the Digital office locations in IL, RI, MA, AZ, TX and can work in hybrid model.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Writing, well-documented code with Kotlin/Jetpack Compose/ Java in Android using Android Studio.
- Work in OOP and design patterns, such as MVVM, MVC, Strategy, etc.
- Responsible for building core libraries, application framework, and Android architecture.
- Work on activities, fragments, collections, multithreading, networking, profiling, performance tuning, and offline storage.
- Work with stakeholders, including Product Management, Engineering Managers, and UX team members to influence the android application development.
- Knowledge of ADA and other regulatory compliances including PCI, PII and PHI.
- Ability to communicate effectively in visual, verbal, and written form.
- Improve and maintain our mobile apps CI and CD infrastructure and pipelines.
- Provide high level tooling support to team engineers.
- Collaborate to drive solutions that would reduce cost and time to market.
- Be responsible for end-to-end application delivery including coordination with required teams for production deployment.
- Continuously monitor application health and KPIs, support triage of any production issues as and when needed
- Collaborate in troubleshooting complex data, features, service, platform issues and perform root cause analysis to proactively resolve product and operational issues.
- Be an advocate of security best practices, champion and support the importance of security within engineering.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to the fellow engineers in software design and development activities.
Required Qualifications :
- 7 years of experience in systems analysis and mobile application development
- 7 years of experience managing large software development teams.
- 7 years of experience in building Enterprise solutions and managing client requirements and technical solutions.
- 7 years of Android app development tools, building reusable frameworks and design systems solution architecture.
- 7 years of development experience in one or more of the following languages: Kotlin/Compose, Java.
- 3 years of experience with Agile software development
- 3 years of experience in a DevOps role worked on any of the following CircleCi, GIT, Sonar, Jenkins, Maven, Docker, Artifactory.
- 1 years of experience worked on CICD Pipeline automation and play store upload process.
- 1 years of experience with A11y, telemetry & Observability.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working across research and engineering.
- Experience in the health and wellness domain.
- Ability to influence and inspire teams to align technical direction.
- Ability to create and execute on roadmaps that consider both progress and innovation as well as the need to scale reliably.
- Have contributed to open-source technology and Developed patents.
- Experience with build systems on highly modularized apps (Gradle, custom plugins, JFrog)
- Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries, build relationships, and achieve broader organizational goals.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor degree from accredited university or equivalent work experience

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$115,000.00 - $230,000.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
