What are the responsibilities and job description for the District Support Pharmacy Leader position at CVS?
The District Support Pharmacist Leader (DSPL) plays a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in pharmacies across their market. An inspiring coach and leader of people, the DSPL is focused on building community and comradery among District Support Pharmacists (Floater Pharmacists) by identifying and addressing performance opportunities and promoting best practices and change management efforts. They will also support novel program awareness, onboard newly hired Pharmacists, facilitate the transition of new Pharmacist Graduates, and recognize colleagues for success. The DSPL consistently exhibits best practices when working the bench, including quarterbacking the team, providing patients with meaningful counseling, and abiding by all legal and regulatory guidelines, amongst other required activities. A role model for all, the DSPL also demonstrates our Heart At Work behaviors, and sets the bar for other Pharmacists by their example. The DSPL is responsible for the direct and effective management of all District Support Pharmacists (DSPs), specifically:
- Conducting weekly check-ins with all DSPs to ensure awareness and alignment to all corporate announcements and initiatives
- Communicating weekly with DSPs to inform the group about district priorities and goals
- Traveling the District and conducting monthly observations or “store visits” to observe each DSP in action, providing in-the-moment coaching and feedback to aid in colleague development.
- Teaching DSPs about new programs coming to the district either in person and/or via phone
- Collecting, interpreting, and acting on feedback from pharmacy teams when DSPs have worked shifts
- Supporting the improvement of pharmacy performance measures (e.g., WeCARE, mCC, mPC, CRS, etc.) by coaching DSPs and through consistent follow-up
- In the normal course of observations, advocating for DSPs by providing additional ad hoc feedback, coaching, and support to Pharmacy Managers, Staff Pharmacists, and Technicians where needed, and providing visibility to the District Leader, RX of any perceived performance gaps for these colleagues

- Conducting new Pharmacist onboarding for the District, including educating and training new Pharmacists on CVS workflow and best practices in their first 90 days of employment with CVS
- Facilitating new Pharmacist Graduate transitioning, transforming the Graduate from an Intern to a fully operational Pharmacist with the ability to independently function and lead their own pharmacy team
Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:
1. People Leadership, Management & Development
- Support selection, hiring, promotion, and termination of DSPs.
- Complete mid-year and annual performance evaluations for DSPs.
- Align and engage DSP colleagues around common goals
- Influence DSP behavior about novel programs in their district
- Build a culture of connectedness and camaraderie amongst DSPs in group communications
- Travel the district to observe DSPs on the bench and provide in-the-moment coaching
- Collect feedback on DSP performance; interpret and deliver feedback and recognition
- Collect district-wide feedback from DSPs; interpret and deliver that feedback and recognition
- Facilitate DSP training and development in group or singular settings as needed
- Deliver targeted coaching and counseling for individual DSPs as needed
- Partner with the DL, RX to evaluate and promote DSPs within the market
- Partners with DPC to be aware of DSP vacations, attendance and related information
- Educate and train new hire Pharmacists on CVS workflow and best practices
- Facilitate the transition of Grad Interns into the Pharmacist role once licensed
2. Business / Financial Planning
- Actively review relevant District business reports to support coaching and training of DSPs
- Partner with District Leader, RX to create and facilitate action plans for DSPs
- Partner with District Leader, RX to build profitable pharmacy business and script growth through execution of clinical and patient care programs
3. Operations
- Work the bench in stores across market to support the business needs
- Share best practices of pharmacy operation across the market with all pharmacy teams
- Lead the pharmacy team during each worked bench shift to engage and align on the top opportunities of the day and ensure all required work is delegated, followed up on, and completed prior to the end of each shift
- Complete all operational tasks required of a Pharmacist working the bench (e.g. prescription fulfillment, register operations, oversee patient care, patient safety, inventory maintenance, and business operations) based on CVS policy/procedure and state-specific guidance.
- Execute required Pharmacy quality assurance, compliance policies and Pharmacy SOPs
- DSPL recommended as most appropriate coverage during short-term DL absence (i.e. myTime coverage)
4. Customer Service
- Complete all customer service duties required of a Pharmacist, i.e.
- o Provide tailored, market-differentiated holistic health counseling
- Provide wellness services (e.g., immunizations)
- Focus on providing differentiated customer service
- Support customer complaint resolution
- Ensure closing the loop of feedback with customers in myCustomer connection
- Follow-up with DSPs on feedback received via myCustomer Connection
Required Qualifications / Education
- 1 years of experience as a Pharmacy Manager at CVS managing Pharmacists and business outcomes or equivalent retail leadership experience required
- Currently employed as a licensed Pharmacist in at least one state the District covers
- Completion if all required training for current role
- Bachelor’s degree
- Completion of Foundations for Leading (FFL) program
- Bachelors Degree Required
- Doctorate Preferred
- Active Pharmacist License in the state where the District is located; active Pharmacist License in at least one state when the District covers more than one state
