What does a Custodial Lead do?
The Custodial Lead is responsible for performing custodial duties, supervision of custodial crew(s), scheduling of custodial crew(s), minor maintenance and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that the facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner. Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner in order to ensure the safety of staff and the public.
What would my Essential Supervisory Duties be?
- Supervises custodial employees in various locations throughout the building
- Uses customer service skills, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials and all members of the public
- Responsible for organizing, planning, directing, staffing and controlling the operations of facility
- Responsible for maintaining the goals, standards, and objectives of the facility as well as obtaining and maintaining the goals, standards and objectives of the company
- Coordinates work schedules to ensure timely and effective completion of the maintenance and care of the buildings and offices
- Coordinates work flow charts on project to meet short and long-term goals
- Oversee the ordering of inventory for the facility
- Trains, supervises and evaluates assigned custodial staff
- Trains staff in proper chemical and equipment usage and maintenance
- Responsible for the security of designated locations
- Opens and closes locks and unlocks facilities as needed
- Keeps records of work completed
- Act as a leader amongst the custodial staff, and provide guidance when needed
- Responsible for the collection of recycle bins located throughout the facility and distributed to the recycling center
- Works under the supervision of the Building PM and Assistant PM
- Perform any other duties as assigned
What would my Roles and Responsibilities be?
- Clean offices, meeting chambers and recreational facilities
- Mop tile and concrete floor areas
- Vacuum all carpeted areas
- Dust all furniture and fixtures as required
- Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers and fixtures
- Clean all mirrors
- Replenish toilet tissue and soap as needed
- Empty all waste baskets and garbage cans
- Place garbage in outside storage bin
- Clean entrance and exit including glass, doors and hardware
- Keep outside area near exit and entrance clear of snow, cans, paper, etc.
- Clean, wash and disinfect drinking fountains
- Wash all finger marks from walls, doors, hardware and glass
- Clean break room sinks and counters
- Report damages and acts of vandalism
- Wash and buff floors with floor polisher
- Wash entrance and exit floors
- Clean walls and toilet partitions
- Secure storage areas
- Ensure cleaning materials and supplies are stored in a safe and orderly manner
- Maintain an adequate supply of cleaning materials and supplies
- Restock materials and supplies
- Make note of the need for equipment repairs
- Perform any other duties as assigned

What are the Physical Demands?
The Custodial Lead is a physically demanding position. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects tools or controls. The incumbent must spend the entire time at work standing, walking, lifting heavy objects, operating medium-weight cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, sweeping and mopping floors and moving desks and furniture. The incumbent is required to do a great deal of stretching and bending, often in awkward positions. Note: Operating floor polishers and waxers are particularly hard on back muscles. The incumbent must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
What are the Environmental Demands?
The incumbent works on a daily basis with dangerous and toxic cleaning products that can be very harmful to one’s health if not properly utilized. The incumbent also regularly cleans up blood, saliva and other bodily fluids that are unpleasant to deal with. The condition of washrooms is often unpleasant. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the environment is generally quiet.
Is a Background Check required for this position?
Must submit to background check during length of employment as dictated by contract. Must be able to pass criminal and drug screening processes to meet current contract eligibility requirements that apply.
