What are the responsibilities and job description for the ASSISTANT CONTROLLER position at CW Talent?
Essential Functions:
1. Plan and manage the quantity and quality of work performed by Accounts Receivable and Income Accounting staff to ensure the accuracy and integrity of receivables and revenues recorded to the general ledger, the establishment of effective internal control systems and the adoption of sound business practices. Continuously improve the cost-effectiveness of these functions.
2. Plan and manage all aspects of daily accounting tasks to support Merchants Square sales and rent reporting, accounting research, account reconciliations, journal entry preparation and financial analysis.
3. Approve the hiring, training and evaluation of Accounts Receivable, Income Accounting, and Merchants Square Accounting staff in accordance with Foundation policies.
4. Coordinate and oversee the timely month-end and year-end closes of the accounts receivable subsidiary systems to the general ledger. Ensure internal management reporting with respect to accounts receivable balances and collection efforts is accurate and available to Foundation management in a timely manner.
5. In conjunction with the Controller’s Office management team, review, assess and ensure the quality and timeliness of balance sheet account reconciliation work performed by the Accounts Receivable and Income Accounting staff throughout the year.
6. Participate with and assist the Controller’s Office management team during internal or external audits of financial functions, processes and controls. Participate in the implementation of resulting recommendations as needed.
7. Participate with or lead revenue accounting-related project teams as needed.
8. Serve as primary day-to-day contact and coordinator of credit card services and reconciliations. In collaboration with the Treasury department, minimize credit card fees by analyzing costs, negotiating fees and other contractual arrangements.
9. Continually work with Foundation business units, Information Technology, and Finance divisional management to improve the revenue related processes and quality and cost-effectiveness of management reporting. Serve as a trainer and informational resource to the Foundation’s management team related to areas of oversight.
10. Assist the Controller in developing and administering the departmental operating budget.
11. Assist the Controller in providing sound and accurate technical support for the Foundation’s financial and operational issues as they relate to areas of oversight.
12. Represent the Finance Division on Foundation projects and committees as requested.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervision to be Exercised:
Direct: Accounts Receivable Staff; Merchants Square Accountant; Senior Accountant- Income Accounting
Indirect: Income Accounting Staff
Required and Preferred Education and Experience:
Required: Bachelor of Accounting/Finance or equivalent professional designation and 8 or more years of experience with financial systems or related work.
Preferred: Certified Public Accountant strongly preferred. Knowledge of hotel, restaurant, retail and/or not-for-profit operations.
Qualifications:
Strong working knowledge of automated accounting systems, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, accounts receivable and collections; strong management/supervisory skills, excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work with all levels of management; ability to interact with employees and customers in a tactful and courteous manner; ability to use automated financial statements, fluent in Microsoft Office spreadsheets and other programs; familiarity with information technology terms and procedures.
