What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of People position at Cypress.io?
The Director of People is a new opportunity at Cypress to establish, grow and build people operations, employee engagement, talent development, people business partnering, and people analytics. Given Cypress’ stage this role is the ideal starting point to take a foundation of energy, talent, appetite and resources with Cypress’ culture to build programming and strategy to take the organization from 100 to 500 employees. Our culture has strong threads but needs even stronger structure and validation to ensure we can elevate and evolve it through the company’s next stages of growth.
This opportunity for impact is strongly rooted in operational management, with program management skills and a bias for deliberate and intentional action at its core. You will partner with the Head of People to create a vision and strategy and be responsible for operationalizing it to fruition. You’ll need to leverage a mix of how technology and people interplay to solve for scaling the team: how we leverage and implement scalable technical solutions and hire individuals with complementary and necessary skills/experience.
The ideal candidate has a background working in a few of these areas: HRBP, Total Rewards, Talent Development, Organizational Success, Talent Acquisition. You’ve managed before and have experience hiring. You have spent your career building engineering organizations and understand intimately the needs of growing tech and product led businesses. You are ready for the next step in your career in an intellectually demanding but rewarding environment.
In the your first year you will be responsible for and focused on:
Performance Management: a continuous feedback process that values training managers and employees on how to give and receive feedback, and the mechanism by which we do it. Focus is on candor and transparency, and feedback structure.
Job Architecture: aligning job leveling across the organization into compensation bands, scope/autonomy expectations, etc.
Coaching & Career Development: evaluating our coaching firm partnership and extended needs for the team to receive individual coaching in leadership, people management, business acumen, executive and operational skills. This would also include mentorship programs internally and externally.
Diversity & Accessibility: partnering with the organization to understand how we embed our approach to diversity and accessibility throughout the entire lifecycle of our people's experience internally.
Total Rewards: elevating and documenting our compensation and benefits philosophy and the processes by which we integrate it into our hiring and employee base. Help develop an appropriate and equitable compensation review process.
People Management: managing the existing team, designing, hiring and growing the team to scale through the next phase or two of Cypress.

Experience:
Demonstrated success in a people management and/or leadership role for a period of time where you’ve been able to build relationships including at the Executive level and create company wide programs
Overseen or worked within: compensation, total rewards, benefits, people business partnering, talent acquisition, employee engagement, people analytics, executive coaching
Exposure to systems implementations and managing a technology ecosystem around employee engagement, talent management, surveys, etc.
Experience at technology/product-led growth companies
