Role Summary/Purpose

The Scientist, Cell Culture will serve as a lead for assigned cell culture media development or new technology evaluation projects. The successful candidate will execute on applications studies to support the service offering. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with the cell culture media development services team and new cell culture product development team to ensure successful project outcomes.

Duties include the following essential functions/responsibilities
Lead execution of cell culture media/process development projects. Responsibilities include independently design experiments and lead study execution; perform cell culture laboratory work; analyze experimental data; present study results internally and externally, and draft project reports
Lead execution of new method verification and development to aid Cytiva’s work in cell culture media and cell line development service and new cell culture product development
Independently identify problems and formulate solutions to complex and ambiguous technical problems
Take personal responsibility for deliverables and compliance of assigned projects
Identify and escalate project risks (critical path items, technical issues, etc.)
Seeks to understand business strategy to drive sound decisions and actions in support of assigned projects
Proactively share own knowledge, experience, and best practices with team members. Provide timely feedback to others
Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to stay current in technical domain
Contribute to scientific publications and/or conference presentations

Qualifications/Requirements
MS in Life Sciences or related discipline with >2 years of experience or PhD with 0-2 years of experience in in cell line development, cell culture process development, bio-analytical and/or manufacturing within a pharmaceutical/biotechnology company
Direct experience in cell culture and knowledge of upstream bioprocessing
Mastery of core cell culture techniques
Design of Experiments (DoE) experience and solid skills in statistical design and analysis
Strong scientific writing skills and ability to communicate in a professional/articulate manner
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
Demonstrated time management skills

Desired
PhD in Life Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline with 0-2 years of industry cell culture experience
Knowledge of cGMP cell culture media manufacturing
Ability to translate customer needs into technical solutions
Diverse hands-on experience in multiple cell lines and bioreactor systems highly desirable
Cell/molecular biology or bio-analytical hands-on experience and skillsets are highly desirable
Strong time management and organizational skills
Excellent communication skills (writing, articulating, listening, questioning)
Proven ability to contribute in a multi-disciplinary team environment
Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to multi-task
Demonstrated problem solving ability and results orientation
Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, matrixed, and customer focused environment
