Assists with the administration of all leave of absence and American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations requests and provides support on special benefit projects.
Administers short-term disability and leave programs, including determination and maintenance of eligibility, processing of leave requests, documentation and records set-up, solicitation of approvals, transition from ST to LT programs, status tracking, maintenance of relationship with employees on leave, management of return-to-work reminders, and interface with payroll and with carriers. Ensures coordination with worker’s compensation programs.
Answers questions, routes calls to carriers, and resolves issues for active employees regarding absence and leave policies, programs, and transactions. Works with employees to investigate, mediate, and resolve billing problems, claim form completion, and other issues or employee disputes with carriers.
Counsels new and existing employees seeking information and guidance concerning any absence and leave benefits, eligibility, and available options. Advises them concerning policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
Advises managers and supervisors on specific employee situations, answering questions pertaining to short-and long-term absence and leave programs, eligibility, extensions, and return-to-work.
Is responsible for working with the third party leave, disability and accommodation services provider to manage leaves, disability claims and accommodations. Works with internal legal counsel where appropriate on legal issues pertaining to leaves and accommodations.
Engages employees, medical professionals, supervisors, and others as appropriate to address issues related to leaves and accommodations and to facilitate and administer an interactive process with employees about accommodation requests.
Evaluates requests for accommodations under the ADA or other applicable laws. Where appropriate, contacts the health care provider and internal medical resources to obtain further information or clarification on employee leave and accommodation cases.
Documents request for accommodation and the interactive process between the employee and D-H to determine the appropriate accommodation.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
