Creates and implements cohesive and effective internal communications plans that inform physicians and other employees of key goals, initiatives, and activities in a consistent, timely manner. Maintains and enhances current internal and external communications vehicles and develop new channels and tactics that enhance effective internal and external communications. Collaborates with colleagues to ensure cohesive messaging including external marketing communications and content pieces. Works closely with D-H’s and D-HH’s senior leadership, medical directors, vice presidents and administrative directors in fulfilling key job responsibilities.


Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements and maintains comprehensive and integrated internal communications plans for Dartmouth-Hitchcock, and recommend development and maintenance of appropriate channels to deliver organizational messaging.
  • Serve as the primary writer of key leadership communications to internal audiences (physicians  and staff) throughout D-H.  Key leadership communications include organizational structure and transitions in leadership, policy or practice changes that affect employee compensation and benefits, issues that threaten the stability or focus of the workforce, and updates on major change management initiatives.
  • Works with Communications & Marketing’s Publications, Creative Services, Media Relations, Digital Services, and other internal teams to maximize the effective reach of all internal communications targeted to employees.
  • Maintains and updates existing internal email lists within D-H and D-HH.
  • Facilitates urgent clinical or emergency messaging within Dartmouth-Hitchcock, as part of D-H’s Hospital Incident Command System (HICS).
  • Assumes responsibility for developing and chairing an Internal Communications Committee comprised of physicians, administrators and front-line employees to provide advice, counsel and feedback on internal communications plans, tactics and vehicles.
  • Develops goals for and quantifiable measures of the effectiveness of internal communications and implement tools for ensuring consistent measurement of outcomes and feedback from employees.
  • Develops and supervises an annual “internal communications audit” and presents the results and implications of the audit to Communications & Marketing leadership.
  • Serves as an internal and external communications consultant/advisor to departments, sections, programs and/or strategic initiatives where a comprehensive approach to internal and external communications is critical to success.
  • Develops content for external facing marketing communications.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field from an accredited college/university.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant corporate communications or related experience required. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, a sense of diplomacy, sound political judgment, flexibility and the ability to work as part of an integrated team are required. 
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with discretion and maturity is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects under pressure required.
  • Experience in health care preferred
