What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Controller position at D-H Medical Center?
The Paper Store is seeking a Controller to oversee the accounting activities (and some financial activities) of the company. As Head of the Accounting Department, the Controller will manage all aspects of accounting, including but not limited to, month end close, financial reporting, year-end audit, and compliance. The person will report to the Chief Financial Officer, and assist with the development of internal controls, procedures, and financial planning as needed.
Controller Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage a team of nine including hiring, goal setting, performance management and training.
- Planning, directing, and coordinating the month-end and year-end close with consolidated financial reporting under US GAAP, including journal entries, reconciliations, and analyses.
- Manage all aspects of accounting: inventory accounting, accounts payable, general ledger reconciliation, tax compliance, monthly close, financial statements, and various special analyses.
- Primary liaison to CPA firms, organizing and execution of all audits.
- Oversee and manage company’s ERP system from a financial perspective.
- Assist with treasury for debts, bank loans, and compliance as well as, monitoring cash and funding balances.
- Ensure compliance with all necessary insurance coverage including general liability, retail workers compensation and cyber security.
- Assist VP of Finance with managing the quarterly/annual budgets and forecasts.
- Advise on financial analyses and decision-making regarding capital investments, pricing, contract negotiations, significant costs, benchmarks, and other matters with management.
- Define benchmark and implement operational best practices. Continuous process improvement and building efficiency/cost management.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting.
- Perform additional duties and ad hoc projects as needed
REQUIREMENTS
- Expertise in organizing and managing audits.
- Experience with managing accounting policy elections and compliance with GAAP
- Knowledge in a retail or consumer goods environment with sales, inventory control, and cost of sales experience (preferred).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to take initiative and build strong, productive relationships.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail, data driven and hands-on.
- CPA and/or MBA preferred, but not required.
- Microsoft Great Plains experience (or other ERP) preferred, but not required.
