Overview
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Dartmouth Health is seeking a Lead Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to perform the clinical duties of an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) while managing other APP personnel in the Express Care Clinic at New London Hospital (NLH). This provider will provide leadership to APPs in clinical, operational, educational, consultative and legislative arenas at New London Hospital and in the Dartmouth Health Network.
Founded in 1918, New London Hospital is a not-for-profit Critical Access Hospital serving 15 communities within the Kearsarge/Lake Sunapee region in central New Hampshire, providing primary care and specialized clinical services in a patient and family centered environment. New London Hospital is associated with the teaching hospital, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and the Geisel School of Medicine.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the clinical competence of the APPs to meet current standards of care.
  • In collaboration with Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of Emergency Medicine manage professional and patient care issues with individual APPs.
  • Lead APP group in collaborative practice with Medical Director of Emergency Medicine, attending physicians and all other members of the inter-professional care team.
  • Ensure licensing, certification, credentials and privileges are maintained and meet current standard of practice for APPs.
  • Develop and support clinical, quality improvement and educational activities within the APP group and mentor individuals in the achievement of their professional goals.
  • Facilitate the identification, measurement and evaluation of APP outcomes. Actively support the mission, vision and initiatives of the department and NLH.
  • Ensure APP compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Section/Department meetings and other leadership meetings related to the role of APPs.
  • Work directly with Medical Director of Emergency Medicine, Director of Ambulatory Services and Practice Manager in planning and reviewing budget related to APPs. Includes, but not limited to, review of billing practices, salaries, operating expenses and productivity.
  • Develop, monitor and modify staffing patterns to ensure appropriate clinical coverage.
  • In collaboration with Medical Director of Emergency Medicine, assume accountability for staffing justification, performance evaluations, hiring and termination of APPs.
  • In collaboration with Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of Emergency Medicine participate in the recruitment of new APP staff by establishing search committees, facilitating the screening/hiring of applicants, and assist in the development of the APP orientation/mentoring program.
  • Coordinate student APP experiences.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
  • Provides mentoring for the professional growth and development of providers and staff in the NLH Express Care clinic.
  • Assist the Quality Department in clinical review of OWLs submissions and patient complaints.
  • Serves as liasion between the NLH Express Care team and hospital administration.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree required.
  • 5 years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and management experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and concisely both verbally and in writing with individuals and groups at various levels and various disciplines.
