YOUR LIFE AS A VICTIM ADVOCATE / LEGAL ASSISTANCE COORDINATOR

This flexible part-time human services position typically works 20 - 27 hours per week with some on-call hours.

In this social services role as a Victim Advocate / Legal Assistance Coordinator, you provide critical crisis intervention to primary and secondary victims of violent misdemeanors and felony-level crimes. You play a hands-on role in planning, organizing, coordinating, and monitoring our victim services program. Passionate about helping others, you perform various tasks to help our crisis staff effectively manage their cases. You thoroughly assess incident reports to determine individual advocacy needs as well as identify potential additional victims. After determining these needs, you refer individuals to the appropriate community resources concerning financial assistance, alternative housing, mental health counseling, etc. If you encounter signs of child, elder, or vulnerable adult abuse, you immediately report your concerns to protective services.

During criminal investigations, you act as a safe liaison between victims, law enforcement, prosecutors, and anyone else involved in the legal proceedings. You cooperate with prosecutors to help prepare a criminal case as well as make appropriate notes and reports in the police database. To help keep our program running efficiently, you coordinate our volunteer victim advocate program as well as maintain the 24-hour crisis line. Occasionally, you get out into the community to conduct victim advocate presentations and recruit volunteer advocates. You find great personal satisfaction in helping people navigate and recover from some of the toughest moments of their lives!


WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • Specialized training in victim assistance program management and operations
  • EITHER 2 years of experience in a victim advocate setting or a related human services area OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge about crisis intervention theory, sexual and physical abuse principles, child and adult protection services, and social service systems
  • Working knowledge about Utah laws and regulations regarding victim's rights as well as criminal justice system procedures
  • Basic knowledge of legal proceedings and legal terminology
  • Proficiency with computer software for word processing, spreadsheet organizing, and database managing
  • Ability to obtain rape crisis and domestic violence certification
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness to comply with our company policy regarding background checks, drug tests, and child abuse registry checks

This position may also be required to complete Utah Victim Assistance Academy training. If you can meet these requirements and perform this part-time social services job as described above, we would be happy to have you as part of our human services team!
