Salary: $80,000.00 annually or commensurate with experience

Scope of the Position:
The Director of Security is responsible for ensuring that security operations are carried out in a manner consistent with the strategic goals and objectives set forth by the Chief Security and Operations Officer. The Director of Security oversees the protection and welfare of the Dallas Museum of Art by managing all security programs and policies to ensure the protection of the premises including the safety and security of all staff, guests, art, and other Museum property. The position directs all licensed Security personnel, permanent and temporary Gallery Attendant personnel, and all contract (law enforcement and non-law enforcement) Security Officer personnel, as necessary in the administration of duties.
The Director of Security supervises and is responsible for all Security Officer and Gallery Attendant training, scheduling, and departmental administration. The Director of Security ensures all DMA staff and DMA contract employees receive proper and effective emergency response and security training. Additionally, the Director of Security participates in interdepartmental and multi-disciplinary workgroups and teams that are formed to plan and carry out Museum processes and programming procedures, to facilitate the promotion of research, dialogue, and public participation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, communicate, administer, and maintain security policy, practices, and standards
- Provide security for the DMA’s collection of artwork and objects, exhibition activities, the facility and property, and internal and external events and programs, in coordination with the third-party hospitality vendor, and all DMA departments. Provide proper escort when requested
- Directly manage and supervise the Security Manager, Scheduling Manager, and Gallery Attendant Manager whose teams collectively comprise the full scope of the security function at the DMA
- Oversee the management of the Museum’s control room staff, utilizing managers and supervisors effectively, observing the performance of assignments, and facilitating the performance review process to ensure protection of the DMA’s art collection, positive guest experiences, and adherence to Museum policies
- Oversee the management of the Museum’s Gallery Attendant staff, utilizing managers and supervisors effectively, observing the performance of assignments, and facilitating the performance review process to ensure protection of the DMA’s art collection, positive guest experiences, and adherence to Museum policies
- Working with the City of Dallas, ensure that the Museum has appropriate, updated, and properly functioning security and life-safety systems in place
- Ensure proper operation of access control, CCTV, and alarm systems
- Remain updated and abreast of compliance, security, and facility-related legal and regulatory requirements and make recommendations for updates as needed
- Prepare annual departmental budget and monitor spending as directed by the Chief Security and Operations Officer
- Oversee the investigation and monitoring of control room logs, security checks, and incident reports of accidents and injuries, fires, thefts, vandalism, and potential threats of violence onsite for the public and staff alike
- Maintain 24-hour on-call emergency coverage for all Security related incidents; ensure proper coverage in coordination with Chief Security and Operations Officer for planned absences
- Provide regular, continuous training for Security Officer and Gallery Attendant staff and support museum-wide training when requested
- Oversee security personnel certification requirements and uniform ordering and distribution
- Work with all relevant departments to maintain Emergency Action Plan (updated annually) and provide training to employees and supervisors in these areas, as directed by the Chief Security and Operations Officer
- Assume command and provide a direct response in emergency situations, such as accidents, injuries, fires, and disasters-natural or man-made.? Inform and seek guidance from Senior Museum management as the situation permits
- Oversee and direct EMT/emergency response personnel in emergencies
- Maintain professional relationships with local law enforcement agencies, local and national museum Security professionals, and corporate security groups
- Assist with art shipments /special transportation as requested or required
- Provide support to Human Resources to coordinate staff security access badges along with independent contractors, volunteers, and temporary /contingent workforces
- Interface with Human Resources in reporting potential worker’s compensation claims and investigating alleged illegal and egregious employee security-related incidents
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all proprietary and sensitive Museum information at all times
- Perform other duties as required
Requirements
Education, Experience, and Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree and ten years of experience in security or law enforcement leadership in a medium to large-sized organization required; Previous Museum experience a plus.
- Education or training in law enforcement, security systems, first aid, and understanding of written security policies and safety procedures required.
- Professional managerial experience in a Security role is required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.

- Skilled in using Microsoft Office Suite, CCTV, fire suppression, and security alarm/access control systems
- Ability to travel to meetings or other activities outside regular museum hours
- Flexibility to be on call for emergency situations and work any shift to support the security department
