About the Job:
At Danone, Manufacturing the best products and supplying them to meet demand is a key driver for our plant teams. We are currently looking to hire an Automation Engineer based in West Jordan, Utah.
In this role you will be responsible for designing, testing, and optimizing automated systems in various mechanical and digital environments to help improve processes, save costs, and achieve better outcomes. You will oversee/perform all phases of controls and automation project work and plant automation support including some on call issues. This position requires the ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, including face to face, written, and presentation skills, and excellent external and internal functional/cross-functional communications skills. This position will also focus on improving all aspects of existing automation, as well as, developing new automation equipment and controls integration optimization. Additionally, responsibilities include metrology and instrumentation design and calibration. This position will report to the Automation Engineering Manager.
Work schedule would typically be Monday through Friday days, with an on-call rotation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and optimize existing PLC, HMI programs and systems.
- Recommend plant equipment and control requirements.
- Specify, design, and install control systems.
- Oversee contractors and mechanics on projects ensuring proper installation.
- Create PLC and HMI programming for system integration.
- Responsible for planning, organizing and directing the automation activities across all areas.
- Effectively communicate Automation Engineering strategy, goals and results across the organization.
- Establish and influence the use of best practices and strategic benchmarks for assessing maintenance processes.
- Develop training programs and development/progression plans for N-1s.
- Develop strategic partnerships across the company and with third party contractors to increase overall automation engineering efficiencies.
- Develop and manage cross-functional improvement strategies.
- Champion the organizations values by leading best practices in maintenance automation by supporting Safety and Quality initiatives.
- Ensure the maintenance and operation of the equipment, systems, and processes for the overall facility meet compliance standards of all external regulatory agencies to include: PMO, OSHA, EPA, FDA and all other applicable regulations.

About You
ABOUT YOU: (Qualifications listed below are all required, except where noted as preferred)
- You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical /Mechanical/Industrial Engineer, preferred. In lieu of a college degree, candidates must have a minimum 5 years’ experience in automation and controls (could include internships), required.
- You have knowledge of Allen Bradley and Rockwell Automation software/hardware, ladder logic, function block and structured test programming.
- You have capital project support experience, instrument calibration experience, and General Electric experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment. Prior automation and controls experience within a food manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- You have working knowledge of food industry standards; AIB, PMO and FDA regulations, preferred.
- Ability to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment. Work schedule could include days, nights and weekend hours as business needs dictate.
