ESL Teacher
Kitty Hawk Elementary School
Nature of Work
Under general supervision, the EL/ML teacher plans lessons, organizes appropriate resources, and presents instruction according to the district LIEP Services Plan. The EL/ML teacher collaborates with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators to meet the needs of English Language learners.
Minimum Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree including all courses to meet credential requirements.
Essential Job Functions
- Participate in district-wide professional learning and training within the ESL program
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and Administrative Regulations
- Confer with colleagues, administrators, students, and/or parents as necessary in MTSS and IEP team meetings and parent-teacher conferences
- Collaborate with staff members to develop and implement appropriate instructional support (co-teachers, counselors, support staff)
- Administer academic and language assessments to evaluate student progress in meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
- Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies which address different aptitudes and interests of students in small-group and co-teaching settings
- Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in content areas according to WIDA Standards
- Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or focused instruction to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students with varying levels of English proficiency
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of various methods of teaching English to non-native speakers
- Knowledge of laws in regard to Title III (ESEA-1965 / ESSA-2015)
- Ability to organize and communicate effectively
